One of the ironies of life is that as we get older, we fall out of touch.
It doesn’t matter how cool we were when we were young, the day always comes that the generations below us know more about what’s going on in the world. Nothing seems to accelerate this trend more than the explosion of technology does.
With that in mind, here are 14 conversations between parents and their children in text form that basically sum up this phenomenon.
Sometimes, when parents are just able to use the newest technology—however badly—it is an accomplishment worth celebrating. If only the kids were more supportive.
Miscommunication is certainly not a new theme between parents and kids, but text messaging and autocorrect have made this even more fraught. Let this be a lesson to double check your texts before sending them off to mom.
Then again, sometimes parents get the hang of texting right away—and they use it against their kids at the right opportunity. Still, what are parents for?
Then again, sometimes those jokes cut pretty deep, even if they’re funny.
We all have those moments where we don’t think things through and end up acting a little bit clueless. It’s also funnier when our parents do it and we get to keep the evidence of it.
It can be understandably hard to keep up with all the shifts in text chat lingo. There’s LOL, ROFL, BRB and also… this one.
There’s also those occasional moments where we want to share in our parents’ joy at having new toys and technology. And then they go and do something like this.
Or else they do something like this.
Did we mention that learning all the chat acronyms can be a little difficult and confusing?
As we all now, sometimes our parents can sound like a broken record. And sometimes we can’t help but poke a little fun at them, even if they don’t get the joke.
Another big hurdle when communicating via text: autocorrect can often be your worst enemy.
Sometimes you actually need something from your parents and all they want to do is joke around.
Humor is a subjective thing and it’s safe to say there’s a definite generational gap when it comes to making jokes. In that respect, this one kind of speaks for itself.
Maybe best of all is when our parents are fully in on our jokes. Here’s to this mom who is definitely picking up what her daughter’s putting down. Deep down, everybody loves the Spice Girls.
