“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” — Joseph Campbell
We always give tribute to the selfless people who would risk their lives and leave their families behind.
No matter how old you are, it hurts to be away from your loved ones, but seeing that they are doing this for our beloved country, we can’t help but feel proud of them.

That’s why watching volunteers and veterans reuniting with their loved ones is always touching.
Samantha Norris, a first-grade teacher, was in her classroom last April 18. She was there teaching her adorable students when someone caught her attention.
Samantha’s mother, Army Sgt. Tamie Norris, a U.S. Army overseas volunteer, had been away for nearly a year.

Sgt. Tamie was stationed in Iraq and Jordan for the past eleven months. We all know the worry and emotions one would feel without a loved one.
Eleven months may be a short duration for some people, but not for Samantha. For her, eleven months was a long time.
Sgt. Tamie was not there when her beautiful daughter started her first job.
Samantha, after she graduated, started her first job as a first grader’s teacher at Harmony School of Innovation, a charter elementary school in Austin, Texas.
“We had always talked about decorating my first classroom together, but now she finally got to see it,” Samantha Norris shared in her interview with Good Morning America.
So imagine the shock it gave her when, suddenly, someone familiar entered her classroom.
Samantha’s eyes widened, then she pulled down her mask, and it was literally a jaw-dropping surprise as she saw her mom walk in.
They embraced, and Samantha’s students figured out what was happening.
In the video, you can hear the kids saying, “It’s her mom!”
“11 months too long without giving my mom a hug. The best surprise, welcome home!!!” Samantha posted on her Instagram.
You can see that the kids were also happy to see such a wonderful reunion.
According to Samantha, her students knew what was happening. After all, kids know how much they love their moms, too.
After a few minutes of spending quality time together, Tamie kept her promise to her daughter.
She wasn’t able to decorate her daughter’s classroom, but she bought doughnuts and spent quality time with the students.
After enjoying some sweet doughnuts, Sgt. Tamie allowed the kids to try on her cool Army gear.
“I think seeing a strong woman in the military was a great girl-power moment,” Samantha said. “I even had one girl student say she wants to be ‘just like Ms. Norris’ mom’ when she grows up!”
Aside from the touching video, the people loved how cute Samantha was when she pulled her mask down.

She said people have been telling her that her action was hilarious, but she said just wanted to make sure that she was seeing what was in front of her correctly.
