When 3-year-old Kynlee McFetridge was given a marriage proposal, the last thing her unsuspecting classmate expected was to be put in a headlock.
Kynlee’s parents tried to get to the bottom of the story in a hilarious video captured by her mom, Kristen McFetridge.
“I took a headlock down on Jack and took him down,” Kynlee said in the video. “Because kids don’t get married so that’s why I put a headlock down on him.”
Kynlee’s dad first became aware of his daughter’s hilarious response to her proposal when he picked her up from school and saw she was on pink — not good — on the school’s color-coded behavior chart. Apparently, the teacher had been laughing when she recounted the headlock- and it had been hard for her dad to keep a straight face as well.
The sweet video soon gained popularity online, and Kynlee was brought in for her very own interview with FOX 2 St. Louis– accompanied by her proud father.
Speaking of the video, Kynlee’s dad Scott, said: “I was trying to be a good dad and reprimand her, but it was pretty hilarious. It was hard for me to stop laughing and put her in timeout but we made it happen.”
It turns out that Kynlee is actually a practiced wrestler, having spent some time learning basic wrestling moves with her dad. The little girl had been born with a heart condition that required her to have open heart surgery at just 5-months-old, and Scott had wanted to find a way to help her gain strength and coordination.
It’s not like I taught her [a headlock],” Mr McFetridge said. “I was just trying to get her stronger and coordinated and I guess she figured out what I was doing and I didn’t really realize she learned it.”
At the end of the interview, Kynlee demonstrates her wrestling skills by putting her dad in a pretty solid headlock. And while the little girl has been encouraged to not put anymore headlocks on her classmates, Scott can’t help feeling a little protective of his daughter- and jokes that she will remember the headlock move as a teenager.
“Every dad wants their little girl to put a headlock down on a boy, especially one who had a rough start like her,” he said. “Hopefully she can still do that in about 12 years.”
