A prodigy is a young person that demonstrates some amazing talent or quality. Most times they are kids with more knowledge than adults on subjects like math or history. Sometimes its a student that is exceptional at a musical instrument. But this child prodigy is gifted in another area, figure skating.
“Great things come in small packages including the personality of our next skater.” says the announcer as a little figure skater dressed in pink makes her way onto the ice. “Even though she is only four, she has been skating for about half her life.” Waving at everyone in the crowd cheering for her, she’s wearing a smile as big as her face as she takes her position at the center of the ice waiting for her song.
The tiny skater is only 4, has been skating half of her young life, and has the grace of someone much older and much more practiced.
The young one starts with a spin as ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies’ from the popular play The Nutcracker, starts to play. Then she takes off for the rest of the routine. She starts off slow, then slowly builds speed making her way around the arena. For her first trick, she balances on one leg to lift the other parallel to the ice, never losing her smile from ear to ear.
She stops abruptly, but only to show off a few ballerina moves performed in skates instead of slippers, then she’s off again around the rink. For her next trick, she lifts her leg again, but this times grabs a hold of it with her hand to lift it higher as she continues to skate. She has incredible balance for someone who is only four years old. After that, it’s nearing the end of the performance and she makes her way to center ice to strike a pose and take her bows as the music stops.
According to the the YouTube post, she performed this number for a benefits concert for the ISI World Competition. The description goes on to say that she was one of the youngest contestants selected for the event. This little girl has got talent and whoever chose her to perform, sees that. She may be small but she is on her way to big things, if she keeps on chasing this skating dream.
