Imagine being a parent and having to confront the terrifying thought that your child might be in a dangerous situation.

Thankfully, kids are often smarter than we give them credit for, especially when it comes to emergencies.

We teach them the basics, like dialing 911 when something’s amiss and we’re not around to help.

Take Savannah, a five-year-old from Indiana, for example.

She didn’t just know what to do when her dad started experiencing chest pains; she actually saved his life by making that crucial call.

But Savannah didn’t just dial 911 and freeze up.

Oh no, she was the epitome of cool under pressure.

She spoke clearly and directly to the dispatchers, ensuring they understood the gravity of the situation.

And get this—she even managed to make them laugh.

The recorded conversation between her and the 911 operator became such a hit that it went viral!

The operator, Jason Bonham, was quick to ask Savannah what was wrong.

Her response was straightforward: “Um… my dad can’t hardly breathe.”

Bonham didn’t waste any time and immediately dispatched an ambulance to their home.

Savannah, still maintaining her composure, urged him, “OK… you need to come reaalll fast!”

Bonham reassured the little hero that help was on the way.

He then proceeded to ask if her dad was still conscious.

“Yes, he’s awake,” she confirmed.

Next on the checklist was the accessibility of their home. Was the front door unlocked?

Savannah had to check with her dad, who informed her it wasn’t.

Following Bonham’s instructions, she unlocked the door to ensure the emergency responders could make a quick entry.

While waiting for the ambulance, Savannah took it upon herself to comfort her dad.

“Don’t worry Dad!” she told him, her voice steady and reassuring.

It’s incredible how this five-year-old managed to stay so composed, serving as a pillar of support for her ailing father.

Savannah was also diligent in answering all of Bonham’s follow-up questions.

When asked if this had ever happened to her dad before, she replied, “No, so far so good. He’s still awake.”

Bonham then inquired about any chest pain her dad might be experiencing. “Do you have any chest pain?” she relayed to her dad.

“Yes,” she reported back to Bonham, “This is his first time.”

Even though it was just an audio recording, you could sense Savannah’s calm demeanor throughout the ordeal.

Now, here’s where things took a slightly humorous turn.

Out of the blue, Savannah became concerned about her attire.

“Ok. We’re in our jammies! And I’m in a tank top, so… I’ll have to get dressed,” she informed Bonham.

“I don’t know what I’m gonna wear, but… he really needs oxygen, real fast. Yes, the door’s unlocked.”

Bonham, trying to keep the focus on the emergency at hand, asked, “Is he still doing OK, Savannah?”

She assured him that her dad was fine and mentioned she’d be in her room getting changed.

But wait, there’s more! Savannah also took a moment to inform Bonham about another crucial family member—their dog.

“Ok. I got that. And… we have a dog….that’s really… um….. small,” she said. She even called out to their dog, Lou, who she described as friendly but sometimes a bit vocal.

“Lou, come on! [clicks at the dog] The ambulance is on the way- come on, Lou Lou!

Come here!” In the end, Savannah’s dad was alright, and our little heroine had not only saved the day but also provided some much-needed comic relief.

Her adorable 911 call had everyone, including Bonham, in stitches.
