A parent often feels like they have eyes in the back of their head. But let’s face it, we need a lot more than that to keep our little ones safe. That’s why we bust out things like playpens and baby monitors, in addition to baby-proofing the house. After all, there are a million and one things they could get into if you’re not careful!
One helpful safety tool is a baby gate. Especially as babies are starting to explore and “toddle,” they’re excellent for blocking off entire rooms, pets, or dangerous staircases. Sure, you might trip over them yourself at times – but it’s all totally worth it.
Unfortunately, toddlers sometimes figure out how to climb over baby gates, making them not so effective. When a mom noticed that her 12-month-old learned how to do so, she decided to capture one of the girl’s “jailbreaks” on film.

Meet Mia the escape artist.
She may be angelic-looking, especially in her bright pink sleeper, but Mom and Dad have to keep a close eye on this one-year-old!
In order to keep Mia safe, they put up a baby gate to block off their staircase. (They’d have to do way better than that though!) Despite being tiny, she discovered climbing the gate was a piece of cake.
So, how do you do it, Mia?
Mom flipped on the camera one day to record her “mischievous” baby in action. Perhaps she didn’t think her friends would believe that a tiny thing like Mia could actually beat the system.
Unconcerned that she’s being watched, Mia starts climbing the gate. As you’ll see, she brilliantly uses the wooden bar to help with the mission.
You clever little thing.
The girl puts her knees up on the wooden bar first. Then, while holding onto the top, she moves her feet onto the bar. It’s very obvious she’s done this before and is a smart baby.
Interestingly, when a baby reaches 12-months-old their brain “has doubled in size,” according to What to Expect.
One last “step.”
At first, it looks like Mia might just flop over. Luckily, she places her hands onto one of the steps and carefully pulls her legs over. Something tells me this girl might be on American Ninja Warrior when she’s older…

Once Mia’s over the gate she turns and looks at Mom with a beautiful smile. Aww!
Since she’s such a good climber, her parents certainly had their work cut out for them in regards to baby-proofing. There’s no way Mia wasn’t testing out those skills on her crib!

After the baby turns and says “Hi” to her mom, she has another thing to climb… The stairs, of course! She starts climbing up them leaving Mom behind.
Hopefully, this isn’t a sign that Mia’s gonna be sneaking out her window as a teen… I’m crossing my fingers for you, Mom and Dad!
