When you’re new to this world, it doesn’t take much to make you scratch your head.
Everything you do is new to you and the things that aren’t have become so routine that you expect them before even paying attention to the details. It takes a few years to figure things out. Unfortunately, one toddler is in the beginning stages of doing so.
Sixteen-month-old Reed’s life was fairly simple until a strange visitor appeared one day.
While his daddy Stephen’s brother had visited every week since he was born, for the first time ever, his uncle Michael babysat him for an extended period of time. They even stayed at Michael’s house which surely mixed things up even more for the kid.
Whenever his dad returned to take him home, little Reed of confused as to who is daddy really was.
His real daddy is in the grey sweater but he didn’t remember who was wearing what.
Surely he thought he was already with his daddy and then Uncle Michael came to visit. He was asked where daddy was, and Reed pointed to his dad and said, “dada.”
While both men wear glasses occasionally, Michael, the uncle always wears glasses. But his daddy normally doesn’t. That’s why Michael took his glasses off, so then Reed knew for sure that the one without glasses was his dad. Even though his gut instinct fought against that knowledge.
When he was switched back over to his dad, he pointed to his uncle and said, “dada.”
This went on and on and he called each man his dada. When they both took the glasses off, it confused him even more.
Which one is Uncle Michael and which one is daddy?
That was his saving grace and now it was gone. He had been with one of them all day but the other one “felt” more like his dad.
After he was given back to his uncle, Reed was more confused than ever. He thought he knew that his daddy was the one without glasses. But something about this didn’t seem right. Both of these men looked the same. It makes you wonder if he even remembered that he had an uncle at this point.
He just wants to figure out where his daddy is and why he keeps switching places.
At one point, Reed reached for his aunt who was taking the video because he wasn’t sure what else to do.
He definitely knew who she was, so maybe she could serve as some sort of an anchor for him in this time of need.
His aunt Caryn was the one who posted the video to Facebook in the first place.
They later tried the same trick with his mother, who is also an identical twin.
The thing is, it didn’t work with her. He knew who his mom was even though this other lady looked just like her! But when it comes to daddy, I’m not sure if Reed will ever be confident reaching for his daddy when Michael is in the same room ever again.
According to his Uncle Michael, he and his wife really love their nephew,
“We absolutely adore Reed and we think he’s such an amazing kid.”
So maybe it’s not so bad having a “second dad” when he can always be the cool uncle! The kid sure is lucky to have such a fun, loving family.
