Anyone who considers themselves a fussy eater can probably remember being force-fed veggies as a child.

No, your mom might not have pinned you down, held your nose and loaded spoonfuls of broccoli into your mouth, but as you couldn’t have dessert until your veggies were finished, she may as well have done.

That’s why the experts say it’s best to start your kids on the healthy stuff young – as in, as soon as they’re old enough to be able to eat it.

Of course, this doesn’t guarantee that your child will enjoy what you’re feeding them, as one new mom discovered.

The mom shared a video on YouTube of her six-month-old daughter saying her first words after eating her first vegetable, and things didn’t quite go to plan!

You’d hope that your baby’s first words would be something cute and lovely. Most parents secretly hope that either “mommy” or “daddy” will come out of their bub’s mouth first, indicating favoritism towards said parent.

Unfortunately for this mom and dad, their baby girl’s first words were “I done”.

Let’s rewind to the scenario that inspired the little girl to speak in the first place. It was a milestone moment – she was trying peas, her first ever vegetable, and mom was going to capture it all on camera.

Now, peas are a very hit and miss veggie. There are people out there who would happily eat peas with every meal. Peas on toast, pea soup, peas in pasta, pea sandwiches, pea pudding. And then there are people who shudder at the mere sight of them.

The little girl in this video, having never tried peas before, approaches her culinary experience with an open mind.

She obligingly lets her dad spoon a good heap of pureed peas, having no idea what they have in store for her tastebuds.

Immediately after the peas touch her mouth, the baby, bless her, spits them straight back out again. But she’s all up for trying a second spoonful, just in case they happen to taste different.

They don’t. Out come the peas again, and the little girl pulls all sorts of hilarious faces, trying to get rid of the taste.

And then, in a moment the parents will likely remember forever, she says her first words: “I done”.

Dad, who has been attempting to feed her, says,

“She said ‘I done’. She said ‘I done.’ She doesn’t even want to open her mouth. Why would you give peas, seriously?”

It looks like dad is something of a pea hater, which probably explains why his little girl so passionately feels the same way.

Even still, dad continues to attempt to feed his daughter, probably hoping she might repeat her first words for a second time.

But she doesn’t – she simply slams her hand down on her high chair tray to indicate her disgust.

Mom laughs behind the camera as dad shares his concerns that his baby girl might be sick if they keep on going with the peas.

It’s one of those situations – we’d all like to feed our kids the healthiest diets from the youngest age possible, but when they’re just not into something, they’re just not into it.

Eventually, dad calls it quits, saying,

“I’m not doing this.”

Hey – the pea-tasting session might not have gone to plan, but at least they recorded their baby girl’s first words in the process!
