As long as we’ve walked the Earth, the embrace has been the essential way that humans connect with one another. As simple as wrapping arms around each other, and as profound as any other gesture, the hug is one of the first we learn. It’s also the one we use the most throughout our lives, and for a great variety of reasons. A hug can say “Welcome back”, “I’ve missed you” or I’m sorry.”

Rarely however, do we get to the see the very moment that a person learns to hug.

Until the internet came along that is.

In this “awwwww” inspiring video, we can see this mother beaming over the precious moment teaching her seven-month-old about what will become one of the most important social actions of her life. Hugging your baby can be an important element of their development, both in their brains, and in their motor skills, as well as responses to human touch later on in life.

With molasses-sweet baby voice, she beckons her infant daughter to jump in for a “huggie”.

This baby is infatuated with her mommy, and even at this early age you can clearly see a strong bond forming. It’s this sort of engagement between mother and child that leads to strong life-long relationship building.

When Mom asks for a hug, Baby knows just what to do.

She lurches forward into her mother’s arms, and they embrace tightly. Well… Baby still has some technique to work on as her little arms don’t reach around mum but remain tucked in. But one step at a time! Especially since she may not even be walking yet!

Watching this hug lesson, it is impossible not to start feeling gooey.

If you think you’ve seen the most adorable thing possible, I’m sorry to tell you like this, but you are wrong. Don’t believe me, well here’s all the evidence. Maximum cuteness. Approaching dangerous levels of adorable.

Throughout this lesson, Baby seems to be getting the hang of it!

What’s more, it seems as if Baby realizes that this is not so much a game, but a shared moment and seems to truly be savoring the hugs themselves. She seems to start “participating” more and more in the hug, rather than just lean in while Mom does all the hard work. She playfully throws her hands in front of her face and leaps into another embrace.

When Baby notices Dad off-screen, she almost seems to extend arms out to him for a hug.

While filming, Dad is chuckling very heartily indeed, getting Baby’s attention. This baby is so loved by her parents, and she seems to know it.

But just when you think Dad’s abut to get a hug…

Baby turns and delivers it to Mommy! Wow, she seems to really be getting the hang of it. Look at that arm extending technique! What is that move, the “Gorilla Grip”? The “Koala Clasp?” Oh, no wait, I know, it’s the “Howler Monkey Hold!” It seems that the hugger has become the hugged.

Whatever it is, you can be sure that there is a lot of love between this mother and daughter, and I’m sure if they keep hugging like this it will only grow.
