In what might be one of the sweeter videos we’ve seen in a very long time – even though it was posted in 2018 – a little girl meets her baby sister for the first time.
Her reaction is so heartwarming that we had nearly the same reaction she did!
Welcome home
Presley Brooks was just 8-years-old when her sister Charleigh was born. But things were complicated. Little Charleigh was born 6 weeks early and had to spend over 2 weeks in the NICU.
That meant that her real homecoming was up in the air. And when she and her brother got home from school one day, they were informed at the door that there was a surprise waiting for them in the house.
Eldest child Reef, was weary of the whole video setup from the get-go.
But his sister Presley seemed to know something good was about to happen.
The family licensed the sweet video to T&T Creative entertainment, which posted the following information:
“This is the adorable moment a girl is left speechless as she is surprised to discover her newborn sister has finally come home after 16 days in the NICU. Presley Brooks, aged eight, had been patiently waiting for Charleigh to come home after doctors determined her sister needed to be born early via C-section due to heart complications. When mom Courtney gave birth on October 2 at just 34 weeks, it meant Charleigh’s lungs weren’t fully developed so she needed to be kept on ventilation in the NICU for a while longer.”
Presley hadn’t been able to go meet her sister in the NICU, so she had to be patient. That probably explains why she’s so darn excited.
“Due to it being RSV and flu season, Presley wasn’t able to visit her baby sister at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in McKinney, Texas, so would have to wait until she came home. Then on October 18 when Presley and her brother Reef got home from school, Courtney had secretly brought Charleigh home and was waiting inside with the kids’ grandma.”
A new sibling
Presley is so excited to hear the news that she rushes into the room to meet her baby sister. Meanwhile, Reef is less impressed – or at least he shows less emotion.
There’s a toddler in the house as well who has clearly already been able to meet Charleigh. But Presley had been waiting for this moment.
And she even had to regain her composure as soon as she passed through the entrance to the room in which the baby lay waiting with grandma.
It’s such a sweet moment to see a big sister stop and realize she already needs to set a good example and act responsibly.
As she gathers herself, she approaches more slowly – and she’s just so thrilled that it warms our hearts.
Reef, on the other hand, is being a boy.
No doubt he’s excited, he’s just not entirely sure how to show it.
That means Presley gets first dibs on holding her baby sister.
She sits down on the sofa and prepares herself – and it’s quite a sight!
While she’s initially overcome with emotion, the moment the baby gets near her arms, her whole demeanor changes.
What a proud big sister!
Baby Charleigh is so very lucky.
