Being the baby of the family has its perks for sure. Older siblings would argue that the baby is spoiled a heck of a lot more than they are.

The baby of the family sometimes skips out on chores and has a lighter load to carry around the house, they’d say. But being the baby of the family also means that older siblings who are built-in playmates eventually will spread their wings and fly the nest leaving the baby behind.

Cash Blasingame, 8, had older brothers he adored. They grew up together in the family home near Tulsa, Oklahoma, thick as thieves.

Brothers are a special set of siblings who engage in wrestling matches in the middle of the living room and kickstart a lively game of football in a giant mud puddle in the backyard.

Some shout, cheer and jeer each other while playing videogames against each other. But they’re also the first to stick up for a sibling when someone is messing with the other.

Inevitably, one day Cash’s brothers moved out of the family house. They were grown and flown.

It left Cash heartbroken when they left him behind…

One thing Cash had talked nonstop about was getting a dog. Ever since he was a wee little boy old enough to talk, he had begged his mom and dad for a puppy.

But the family of boys had always been super busy and it just wasn’t feasible. Until now…

Cash had no one to play with anymore with his brothers gone. No one to horse around with, no one to curl up and watch a movie with.

So as his eighth birthday approached and the house seemingly virtually empty without his best buddies by birth hanging around anymore, his parents revisited the idea of bringing a pup into the home.

Dogs truly make incredible best friends. They are protector, cuddle buddy, lifesaver, best buddy. They’re simply awesome creatures.

They eagerly play fetch and greet us at the door with a wagging tail and undying affection. So Cash’s parents went out and found a loyal breed for Cash – a blue heeler puppy they named Lizzy.

Blue heelers, officially known as an Australian cattle dog, are considered to be insanely loyal, incredibly smart, always alert and leery of strangers. Lizzy would be the best partner for a lonely Cash.

Mom Kim tells Cash one day that a friend from school had popped by and was waiting to hang out with him in his bedroom. Cash appears to be a bit confused understandably.

“It’s just a friend.”

He makes his way to his room, perplexed. As he opens the door to his bedroom to see who on earth is waiting for him, we see the cutest little puppy standing up on her hind legs, anxious to see who is walking through the doorway.

As soon as Cash lays eyes on the new puppy in his room, he bursts into tears. Finally, his dream has come true!

“Oh my gosh!”

“Cash meet Lizzy. This is who was waiting to play with you.”

The puppy begins to whimper at him then she yips. Her little stub of a tail wiggles like crazy at the sight of the little boy who surely will be come her bestie for years to come.

“Cash, she wants to play with you.”

The little boy reaches into her cage and gingerly pets her. This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship. What a perfect surprise!
