As parents, we should be mindful of how we act and encourage our children.
Sometimes, they will make the craziest thing, embellished with their unlimited creativity.
These are the moments we should treasure and nurture.
This is exactly what a father from Massachusetts did when his son proudly marched into his room to present his gift.
Aaron and Sam Gouveia recently went viral because of Sam’s sweet gesture.
In a TikTok video, Sam presented his father with a shirt he made for him through an after-school sewing class.
In the clip, a nervous Sam answers Aaron’s questions about the shirt.
An impressed Aaron let Sam discuss the creative process that the shirt went through.
Sam proudly said that while he had help here and there, he did most of the shirt all by himself.
Aaron can then be heard discussing the features of the shirt.
You can tell by his voice that he was both proud and amazed.
He began gushing about the ‘70s-style oversized collar and the pleat details on the back of the shirt.
He also said something that his son would want to hear about the shirt – Aaron asked him if he could wear the shirt when he’s out for dinner.
He then continued to engage and acknowledge his son’s creativity.
He let Sam discuss why he chose the color and the pattern.
He said it was unique and that the color would go well with the pants his father usually wears.
In the next part of the video, Aaron brags about the shirt.
The shirt fits Aaron perfectly.
Sam had a big smile on his face when his father was marveling at the piece through his own fashion show.
But things weren’t always this way for Sam. As a child, Sam didn’t really subscribe to the system of gender roles.
He was even bullied when he was five after he went to school with some nail polish on. He shared that children made fun of him.
Aaron also mentioned that some of his peers don’t understand his interests.
Nonetheless, Sam’s parents did the best they could to encourage him to be himself and to pursue things that interest him.
“He’s an old soul. He’s always connected way more with adults than he does with kids,” Gouveia tells TODAY.
People all over the world were very supportive too!
“Show more of his work, please! What did he make with the scraps he was gifted? Super curious, he has such talent!” said one comment on TikTok.

We do hope that down the road, when he becomes a successful designer, he’d look back and tell the world about the very first piece of clothing that he made and the love he received from it.
