Do you think that the waiter did the right thing?

On a typical Wednesday evening, Kim Castillo was out with her family and son, five-year-old Milo Castillo, enjoying a nice dinner. The family was dining at a restaurant called Laurenzo’s.

The waiters were happy to see the Castillo family, especially young Milo, who has Down’s syndrome.

However, just as the family was taking their seats in a booth, the family beside them moved tables. The server of that table, Michael Garcia, didn’t think much of the family moving until he heard a particularly disparaging comment.

One member of the family claimed, “Special needs children need to be special somewhere else.”

Michael was not one to tolerate this insensitive behavior, likening it to the family rejecting someone due to their skin color.

Standing up for Milo, Michael put his tip – and job – on the line. He told the family he would refuse to serve them, and when they claimed they would leave without service, Michael stood firm.

Though the Castillo family is familiar with Michael, Kim never expected him to put his job on the line by standing up for her child – but she is very grateful.

In addition, Michael’s kind deed has been applauded by his friends, family, other patrons, and most importantly his employers. The Laurenzo family, who own the Laurenzo’s restaurant, supported Michael’s decision.

At the end of the day, this man stood up for what was right at the risk of losing his job – all to defend someone who couldn’t defend themselves.

Sounds like he’s worthy of a promotion to me.
