Becoming a mother is one of life’s greatest gifts. Unfortunately, it is not a gift that is distributed equally.
Between 2011 and 2015, 7.3 million women between the ages of 15 and 44 sought out, and used, infertility services, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In 2015, Sarah Justice was one of the millions of women struggling with infertility in the United States. After trying to conceive for over 3 years, Sarah and her husband Andy made the decision to adopt.
Boy, were they in for a surprise!
When Sarah accompanied the birth mother to her first ultrasound, she discovered that the mother was not expecting a single baby— she was expecting triplets!
The young couple was over the moon. They had always wanted more than one child but adoption is a very long and grueling process. With the mother being pregnant with triplets, Andy and Sarah were able to completely bypass the future adoption processes, adopting 3 babies in the time it would take to adopt one.
Sarah tells Babyology, “Having a number of children is a dream come true. When you wait for something you appreciate it that much more.”
The triplets— Joel, Hannah, and Elizabeth— were born in May of 2015, but, to everyone’s surprise, one week after the triplets’ birth, Sarah discovers she’s pregnant— with twins!
The childless couple went from being a family of two to a family of seven within 5 short months! Their situation attracted a ton of media attention.
Sarah tells Babyology, “We never lack playmates and work to promote love and care between the siblings. Our children will always have a friend and will never need to feel lonely.”
During the first few weeks, Babyology reports that the Justice family went through 84 bottles and 300 diapers every 7 days.
In August of 2015, the family learned they were expecting another bundle of joy.
Caleb, the couple’s sixth child, was born in January of 2016, bringing the once childless family to 8 members total. At the time of Caleb’s birth, all of the children were still under 3 years old.
Sarah tells Babyology that the children were thrilled with their new sibling, explaining:
“All of the kids absolutely adore their ‘Baby Caleb’. He has the best fan club ever and we cannot imagine life without the sweetest, most loved little guy in the world.”
As of July of last year, the couple was busy transitioning their 5 toddlers into toddler beds. Sarah told Babyology, “Having five in toddler beds is an adventure, but we are getting there.”
Despite their busy lives, the family feels blessed to have such a large, beautiful family— especially after their struggles with infertility.
