Babies always know who their mothers are. They have a special connection that no one else has.
In fact, research shows that “the brain waves of mothers and their babies are connected, working as a ‘mega-network’ when they interact.” Besides the physical and hormonal changes, there are emotional changes happening in the mother as well.
The process may be gradual but by the time the baby is born, their connection is even stronger.
And over time, their connection becomes even stronger and the babies are soothed by their mother’s presence every time.
So when another person who’s not their mother, their father, their siblings, or anyone else who cares for the majority of their days, the babies are confused. They’re confused by the unfamiliar face, unfamiliar scent, and unfamiliar touch.
So they cry and reach out for their family, the one they’re familiar with, to ease their confusion and fear.
But what if the one holding the baby is the twin sibling of your parent? How will the baby react?
Baby Dalia was at home with her family and she’s happily settled in the arms of her mother. Or was she?
You see, Dalia’s mom, Bracha, has a twin sister.
And Bracha was out of the house at that time. But Dalia didn’t realize that because her mom’s twin sister was carrying her. Since they looked alike, Dalia believed her mother was carrying her.
And then Bracha came back and Dalia was shocked! What was going on? Why are there two people who looked like her mother?
Her brother decided to trick her and ask who her mother was.
Dalia looked at her aunt and pointed to her. Everyone laughed and Bracha pretended to be hurt.
But Dalia couldn’t stop looking at Bracha and knew something wasn’t right.
Dalia’s experience with twins isn’t the first recorded experience of confusion.
A lot of parents who have a twin have recorded their baby’s confusion on video and posted on YouTube.
There’s one dad in New York who tried to trick their son. Dad carried his baby first and his baby knew exactly who his dad was. But here’s the thing. Dad wore glasses and Uncle didn’t. So when Dad passed his glasses to his twin brother, his baby pointed to Uncle and said he was “Dada.”
They did the glasses exchange several times before they finally gave in and the real dad took over.
At the start of this video, it already looked like they had a plan set in motion. All of them were already waiting by the door, waiting for Bracha to come inside.
Of course, little Dalia was clueless. All she knew was that she was in the arms of her mom.
Until Bracha arrived.
And now, Dalia’s eyes were full of confusion. Her mom was there but her mom was also carrying her. What was going on?
And then her brother kept asking, “Where’s Mommy? Who’s Mommy?”
Her brother and mother’s jaws dropped when Dalia pointed to her aunt while everybody else laughed.
But Dalia couldn’t stop staring at Bracha and it looked like she wanted to ask someone what was going on.
Eventually, Bracha held out her arms to give Dalia room to come to her.
What do you think? Did Dalia eventually recognize her mother?
Watch the video to find out if she did!
