Keeping things a secret from your family and friends is no easy task. Especially, when that secret is a pregnancy and newborn child.
But somehow, Ben Hinders and his wife were able to pull it off.
Not only did they keep the birth of their daughter, Ivy, a secret from all of their family and friends, but they got video of everyone’s reaction when they introduced them to Ivy for the first time.
And the reactions were truly beautiful.
“A huge Thank You to the friends who helped us keep the surprise safe,” Ben wrote on the video’s YouTube description which has more than 780,000 views. “You know who you are!”
According to Ben, it was all his wife’s idea. She came up with the idea while they two were on a road trip in 2015. The couple ended up getting unexpectedly pregnant and decided they would put the idea to the test.
“We thought there was no way we could pull it off, but it worked out,” Ben explained. “And we do live really far away from our families, and no family came to visit us. With how connected the world is these days, there aren’t many big, yet joyful surprises I guess? So, we went for it. My wife was the champion obviously, I would never have asked her to keep it a secret. But babies used to get born without family helping or knowing, so I guess we just scaled it back to ‘pre-internet’ days?”
The couple finally introduced Ivy when they made a visit to their families.
The looks on their faces were absolutely priceless, especially Ivy’s grandpa who just said, “Nooo,” with his mouth agape. “What?!?!”
Though many who commented on YouTube expressed how beautiful the video was and how happy they were to witness such a huge surprise for so many people, there were others who didn’t quite understand it.
Some even said that their families would be so mad if they kept such an important secret from them.
“Fair enough! Honestly, I don’t blame you one bit,” Ben responded to one commenter. “Yet, when you live so far away, and they weren’t going to visit anyways, what could they actually have done besides call in, you know? But fair enough, and you’re definitely not wrong.”
Most people gushed at over how cute Ivy was and how special it was for her to be introduced to her family and friends this way.
Ben says he looks forward to showing his daughter the video when she grows up.
“We have to make sure it doesn’t go to her head, but it will be such a great way to show her how loved she is!”
