Frustrated with their son not brushing his teeth, two parents found a creative solution with the help of the tooth fairy.
According to National Smile Month, 25 percent of adults admit to not brushing their teeth twice a day and 69 percent admit to not using mouthwash. Statistically, oral hygiene isn’t society’s favorite task. Unsurprisingly, brushing and flossing are not tasks children enjoy, either. This, however, doesn’t stop children from jumping for joy every time they lose a tooth.
Henry Warren of London used the tooth fairy – who he affectionately named Barry T. Tooth Fairy – to encourage his son to practice better oral hygiene.
In a post Henry shared on Twitter – which has gone viral – the frustrated fathered noted his son was “dreadful” about brushing his teeth. When his 8-year-old lost his most recent tooth, the father decided to seize the moment as an opportunity to teach his son a thing or two about oral hygiene. Just how did he do that? Well, he enlisted the help of none other than Barry T. Tooth Fairy.
Sam Warren found more than just a 1-pound coin under his pillow from the tooth fairy.
Traditionally, a child loses a tooth, places the tooth under his (or her) pillow, and the tooth fairy takes the tooth and replaces it with money. While the amount of money the child receives for the tooth varies from one household to the next, the tradition remains the same. Sam Warren went to sleep with his missing tooth tucked under his pillow as any child in his situation would. He, however, woke up to a little more than he expected.
In addition to the expected 1-pound coin, little Sam also found a formal letter from the tooth fairy. The letter contained a strict warning regarding Sam’s poor dental hygiene. Below is the letter Sam received from the tooth fairy:
“Dear Mr Warren,
This letter is to inform you that I have now taken receipt of your tooth and it is being duly processed in our system.
You will have noticed there has been a delay in your payment for the tooth. Mr. Warren, I have to inform you that this is due to the condition in which we found said tooth. We expect a certain amount of wear and tear on the teeth we appraise. However in this case your tooth had to be referred up to the committee for further analysis.
We believe this is due to the lack of care and attention by yourself. We have detected more than trace amounts of Fanta and residual amounts of both cereal and chocolate which have not been removed by appropriate brushing technique. We recommend you review your practice here as a matter of urgency.
Mr Warren we will accept the tooth on this occasion but we need your assurances that the condition of your next tooth will be significantly better or we will withhold payment.
Sincerely yours,
Barry T. Tooth Fairy”
Parents around the world applauded Sam’s parents for their creative method of calling their son out on his poor dental hygiene.
According to Bored Panda, it did not take long for the Twitter post to go viral. In less than two weeks, more than 18,000 people liked the post and more than 6,500 people re-tweeted it. Many left comments on the post praising the parents for their creative idea.
Even Colgate chimed in with praise for the letter from Barry T. Tooth Fairy.
The real question is – will Sam improve his tooth brushing skills after receiving this letter from the tooth fairy, or will Barry hold Sam’s tooth money hostage?
