You don’t even have to be a parent to know that getting your little ones to sleep can be taxing to say the least. Sometimes it seems like when you need them to sleep the most is when they’re the most obstinate about staying up. They’ll cry about being tired, yet when you try to get them to nap, they won’t abide by it.
When you do get it right however, silence never sounded so sweet!
Some babies however, aren’t only good at going to sleep…
…but they’re even proficient in pretending to be asleep! This adorable little thing named Benjamin seems to be well drifted off into the realm of slumber, but all is not how it seems! Apparently Benjamin has not only a cute face to be proud of, but some acting skill to boot.
After his Mom calls his name, we can see the first stirrings.
Mom calls Benjamin’s name a few times, sing-songy and affectionate. While we may be fooled into believing that this little prospective Academy Award nominee is happily snoozing, his own mother sees through his act. This must be a performance he puts on fairly regularly.
As we get closer, we can see the cracks in his charade.
Specifically, we can see the cracks forming in his cheeky, peeky eyes. These aren’t the flickering eyes of someone dreaming deeply in REM. No, this is the slight crack of the eyelid of somebody covertly peeking through their eyelids.
I bet he thinks he’s so smart.
To be fair…he may be! Maybe he knows that the true power he has is not in how sneaky he can be, but how cute he can be. If the eyes weren’t enough to give him away, I guess his slowly growing smirk might be. Needless to say, the tiny grin that’s beginning to creep across his face is what puts this video over-the-top in terms of cuteness.
This baby is going places.
Who knows, it may be because pretending to be asleep affords him some extra peace and quiet, or it may be the attention he’s able to get from Mom who’s trying to wake him up, but the smile he’s wearing says that he is having a great time. Needless to say, as much as he’s having a fun, so are we seeing just how mind-bogglingly cute his little expression is. Babies have been known to pretend to sleep when there are loud noises and bright lights, but it seems like this thespian’s motivation is more toward fun.
Not giving up the ruse, he stays in character.
While the peeking and the smirking do subside, I think it’s safe to say that our little guy is still wide awake and enjoying this little farce. After all, maybe this is all part of Benjamin’s actual sleep routine; pretend to be asleep and outwit your mom until eventually you fall asleep for real. Either way, you can be sure that he’s going to grow up a tenacious trickster. His mom has her work cut out for her.
