In 2018, traditional gender roles have very little purpose or meaning.
We’re learning that traditional roles and characteristics for men and women just don’t have relevance in the modern world anymore.
And while many are calling for rights for women to be able to break out of these roles, there is less attention when it comes to men stepping out of these roles.
But father-of-three Donte Palmer wants to change that.
He was frustrated over the lack of diaper changing stations in men’s room.
While many women’s bathrooms have safe and comfortable places to change a baby’s diapers, lots of men’s bathrooms don’t.
This forces women to always take on the job of changing diapers when not at home.
But what about when mom’s not around?
Dads are left to improvise diaper changes in dirty cramped spaces.
And Palmer showed the world a perfect example of this and exactly what he has to go through in order to change his son’s diaper.
He even posted a picture of it.
The photo shows him crouched down against the wall while balancing himself and son inside a toilet stall.
This son is outstretched facing upward over his knees while his oldest son snapped the photo.
His son doesn’t seem to think anything of it.
Palmer is a diaper changing wizard to be able to get the job done in these conditions.
“This is a serious post!!! What’s the deal with not having changing tables in men’s bathroom as if we don’t exist!! #FLM #fatherslivesmatter clearly we do this often because look how comfortable my son is. It’s routine to him!!!! Let’s fix this problem! Kaepernick drop a knee to this issue! @theshaderoom let’s show the innovation of fathers!” Palmer wrote in his Instagram caption.
Palmer says that he doesn’t even bother to look for changing stations in men’s rooms anymore because he knows it isn’t very likely that he’ll find one.
“Taking care of children has been a job deemed necessary for women. At times society complains about the presence of fathers not being involved but in all actuality, there are a ton of fathers willing to step up to the plate,” he told Scary Mommy.
Hopefully, fathers will get the credit they deserve if people like Palmer keep speaking out.
Many people on Instagram applauded Palmer’s actions and fierce diaper changing skills.
“Wholeheartedly support this cause. It’s just plain sexist not having changing facilities in the men’s bathrooms,” one commenter said. “Having said that I was in an m&s the other day and they had baby changing in the men’s bathrooms, I was so impressed, more places need to follow suit!”
