If you’re the sort of person who can’t even go to the shops without embarrassing yourself, it’s a guarantee that you’ll be an embarrassing parent.
You might dream of being “cool mom” or “cool dad”, but whether you’re accidentally showing up at school half an hour late or you’re falling asleep at a family trip to the movies, life certainly has the better of you most of the time.
One dad who knows more than anyone what it’s like to face unintentional embarrassment as a parent is Isaac Jones.
Isaac might look like a normal guy when he’s out in public, but back at home, he’s the sort of dad you can never take seriously. He’s always goofing around, whether for his daughter’s amusement or his own – perhaps a bit of both.
So when Isaac’s daughter, Delaney, started filming a video in their Oregon family home, Isaac jumped at the chance to get involved.
After all, what’s the harm in video-bombing a personal family video that won’t ever be seen by anyone else?
You see – that was the issue. Isaac had been convinced that little Delaney was doing her usual thing, making “craft tutorials” for no reason whatsoever.
What he didn’t know was that this time was different. And without his prior knowledge, Delaney uploaded her video to the classroom app SeeSaw for her first-grade teacher to see.
In the video, Isaac lingers in the background of Delaney’s shot while she holds up craft items to the camera and explains what she’s doing.
Though the video is supposed to be about Delaney’s crafts, all eyes are on dad, who’s busting some impressive moves.
There’s no corny dance trend that Isaac doesn’t attempt.
He moonwalks, shuffles and claps (someone’s been learning the “Thriller” dance routine), blows kisses, wiggles his ass, and, at one point, picks up Delaney’s younger brother and shakes him around over his head.
Good old Delaney persists with her crafts, even when Isaac comes up close to the camera and starts tipping her little brother in front of her face.
Perhaps she knows that ultimately, she’ll get the last laugh in this case of distance learning gone wrong.
At one point, Isaac makes a Michael Jackson-esque scream behind Delaney, and she says, “That’s my dad”, in such a calm voice that we know this is a completely normal occurrence in her household.
But a little later, when her brother intervenes, she asks,
“What is wrong with this family? I’m just trying to do some peace and quiet art.”
Bless her – she’d probably have a quieter time at a soccer stadium.
Delaney’s mom Jennifer realized what had happened once Delaney had sent the video to her teacher, and knew the story was too funny to share.
She uploaded the video to Facebook, writing in the caption:
“I was checking Delaney’s seesaw (app for school) and she often will send her teachers random videos wishing them well, or goodnight, or just talking to talk.
“Well…. I found this as a sent video from earlier today. I hope her teacher laughed as hard as I did…. How’s your distance learning going?
“*update* Daddy thought she was just making a “tutorial” like she typically does. He didn’t know she uploaded it to seesaw and sent it to her 1st grade teacher!”
16 million views later, and we’ll have to hope Isaac can see the funny side of his embarrassment, because he’s well and truly Facebook famous.
