Everyone needs a good refresh once in a while. A new look, a new change of pace. Something that helps you to remember the best parts of you. And for some, that memory jog can come from a good makeover.
And while we don’t typically think of dads when it comes to makeovers, we probably know a few that could use one.
According to a published on the Association for Psychological Science‘s websites, the way we dress influences the way we see ourselves.
“The formality of clothing might not only influence the way others perceive a person, and how people perceive themselves but could influence decision making in important ways through its influence on processing style,” the researchers write.
How we see ourselves is far more important than how others perceive us.
That’s why 8-year-old Marley asked TODAY to give her dad, Matt Roughton of Murrieta, California, an ambush makeover.
Marley loves her dad a whole lot and says he is a great dad.
“My daddy is the best daddy ’cause he’s always around. He volunteers in my class and goes on field trips. My daddy takes me to the movies and out to dinner. He takes me to gymnastics, is my soccer coach, and takes me to the father-daughter dance at my school,” she told TODAY hosts.
Marley just wanted her dad to know how good-looking he was under the massive beard that he grew.
“My daddy deserves a makeover because of his beard. It is too long! We have been trying to get him to cut it off for a long time. Daddy will look so much better without it. I know he will be very handsome,” she said.
Marley’s plea to give her dad a new look and get rid of that beard won over the hearts of the TODAY staff who let hairstylist Louis Licari and style expert Jill Martin give him a makeover.
Licari said that his subjects are “good looking to begin with,” but after he and Martin are done with them, they “look like models”
And he wasn’t lying! When Matt stepped out on that stage with his new look, his daughter didn’t even recognize him.
She was shocked when they told them that the clean-shaven man in a suit was her father.
To be quite honest, she seemed a little traumatized by it and broke down into hysterical tears.
This poor kid was totally stunned. While her dad now looked like a CEO, she didn’t seem to see her dad when she look at this man standing before her.
Still, everyone likes a change now and then.
It seems that dad was pleased with his new look, though it might take his daughter some getting used to.
Matt wasn’t the only dad that day to get a makeover.
Ernie’s kids nominated their dad for a makeover too.
