Dad Facing Backlash For Kissing Daughter In Photo
The internet was NOT okay with this. What do you think?

It seems like people can get offended over anything these days. It’s one thing to get upset over something that’s actually offensive. But now the internet is in a head spin over a picture of a dad giving his daughter a kiss.

Famous footballer David Beckham recently uploaded a photo of himself and his daughter, Harper Seven, sharing a sweet kiss on an ice-skating rink. Of course, some people got up in arms about it. The reason is that Beckham and Harper are kissing one another on the lips.

It’s perfectly natural for moms and dads to kiss their kids on the lips.

But one dad took his support for Beckham a little far, giving people yet another reason to be upset.

Ian Singleton, 42, decided to upload a photo of himself sharing a kiss with his own daughter, Cianna. But the Singletons added an odd extra element to make a point to all the haters — they flipped the camera the bird.

“People crying about that picture of Beckham kissing his kids is an absolute joke,” Singleton wrote on Facebook. “Here’s a big shout out to all the lads out there that want to show their daughters how much you love them and not [expletive] strange people off that complain that you shouldn’t do it.”

Although the internet backlash against Beckham was loud, there was also a lot of very vocal support for the famous footballer, including from some celebrity figures.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady posted about the Beckham kiss on his own social media account, calling it sweet. Brady himself is no stranger to drawing internet ire for how he shows affection to his children. On an episode of “Tom Vs. Time” that aired earlier this year, Brady gave his 11-year-old son Jack a kiss on the lips, drawing outcry from around the web.

But support for Beckham and his daughter has also gotten plenty of internet attention.

“Beautiful father and daughter,” wrote social media commentator Barry Roberts. “The world has gone mad if they think this is wrong. It’s the weirdos who have the problem not the doting parents.”

As for Singleton and his daughter, they’ve also gotten some criticism.

But while some people are upset over them exchanging affection in the same way as Beckham and Harper, others are more bothered by the fact that the father is encouraging his daughter to throw an obscene hand gesture.

But it’s nothing new for parents to be on the front lines when it comes to facing internet criticism. Ask anyone with a child, and they’ll tell you that when it comes to parenting, they’ve heard opinions from absolutely anyone. With the age of the World Wide Web, it’s only gotten worse.

Mommy shaming, or parent shaming, is common both in person and online.

Not even celebrities are immune from it.

Model Chrissy Teigen has gotten plenty of flack on the internet for her parenting choices. Since she and husband John Legend welcomed their daughter, Luna, in 2016, it seems like everyone online has something to say. They’ve commented on everything from Teigen going out to dinner to how she dresses her daughter to whether it’s safe to let baby Luna go down a playground slide.

After Twitter had a heyday with criticizing Teigen for going out to dinner when Luna was only a month old, John Legend had a couple of things to say.

“Funny there’s no dad-shaming,” he wrote. “When both of us go to dinner, shame both of us so Chrissy doesn’t have to take it all. We’ll split it.”

Teigen was also quick to come to the defense of another celebrity a few months later in July 2016.

Reality TV star Kristin Cavallari shared a picture of her children at the beach and promptly found herself piled on by people who took offense to something pretty odd. Cavallari’s offense? Her kids were too thin, and she was obviously starving them.

Teigen had something to say in Cavallari’s defense.

“I will never know why parents criticize others so harshly, knowing they’d go insane if they were on the receiving end ALL THE TIME,” Teigen said. “NO parent out there thinks they’re perfect. I loathe these [expletive] commenters. Who would want to make someone feel horrible for fun?”

Unfortunately, it seems like for parents, there’s no winning against the shaming.

Even being famous and having lots of money doesn’t protect you from “sanctimommies.” At least parents can band together, knowing that they’re trying their best.
