If you have a dad with a flair for fashion, you probably know he’s the exception, not the rule. Most dads don’t have the hang of stylish clothes, especially when it comes to their kids. One Minnesota father has gone viral after sending his daughter to daycare in what he thought was a hat.
Ashley and David Braun’s 2-year-old daughter Elsa needed to be bundled up.
Minnesota in November is pretty cold. But when Ashley Braun went to pick her daughter up, she was confused at what she found in her cubby.
Elsa’s dad had dressed and dropped her off that morning. Like a good parent, he knew she needed a hat in the frigid temperatures.
“Minnesota is freezing, so [he] put it on her because it was cold, assuming he thought it was a hat,” said Ashley Braun. “I showed the girls at daycare, who laughed endlessly.”
So, what was Elsa wearing that caused so much hilarity?
As it turned out, it was a wool diaper cover.
In David Braun’s defense, it did look a lot like a hat…from a distance, at least.
Ashley Braun immediately texted her husband to tease him about the fashion faux pas.
“Honey, this isn’t a hat,” she said. “It’s a diaper cover from when she was an infant. Notice the leg holes.”
As it turned out, David Braun had noticed the leg holes.
He just assumed they were for something else.
“Oh, I thought those were for like pigtails,” he said.
That seems reasonable, right? As it turns out, this isn’t the first time Elsa’s dad sent her to daycare looking silly.
“He’s dressed her funny numerous times — and it makes my day,” said Ashley Braun.
“He’s sent her in swim shirts, tiny play shorts meant for under her dresses, completely opposite patterned shirts and pants, and numerous times in a pajama shirt or pants. I love it. He makes me smile every day.”
Luckily, everyone had a sense of humor about it, and Elsa was no worse for the wear.
The little girl even said she thought it was a hat, too. She never knew that was wearing a diaper cover on her head.
“Elsa didn’t even notice it,” said Ashley Braun. “She said [she] thought it was hat as well… If it wasn’t very small and meant for an infant or newborn tush, I’d definitely try the pigtails with it.”
The family shared the hilarious mishap on social media.
There, it went viral. The post racked up 77,000 shares and 25,000 comments. Not surprisingly, many of those were women tagging their husbands. David Braun’s ineptitude with baby fashion isn’t uncommon. Clearly other women were able to relate with their own husbands.
Undoubtedly, it’ll end up being a family story that’s told for years to come. Maybe Elsa’s dad will even inspire a new fashion trend. If we see any little girls wearing hats with pigtail holes, we’ll know where it started. As for little Elsa, who knows what her daddy will dress her in next but we sure do look forward to it!
