Jordan Watson is the man behind the clever, famous, and entertaining YouTube channel, How to DAD. He’s got a lot of occupations under his belt: full-time dad, part-time landscaper, and viral content creator. He describes himself as “a Dad from New Zealand who makes videos about Dad stuff and stuff about New Zealand. That’s about it really.” His sense of humor is seen in the content he shares, all of which are fun to watch and relatable.

His parenting tips are always a treat to hear because of the comical, how-to format and his mock serious delivery. How to Dad became such a hit that the channel already has over 600K followers.

The first video on his channel was actually just a goof he made while taking care of his baby, Alba.

See, going viral wasn’t exactly the goal for this funny dad.

But boy, did that first video click! Called “How to Hold a Baby“, the clip boasts 3.7 million views.

He still expresses disbelief at how quickly that first video went viral.

“It was just me cutting together, in my eyes, crap – just me being an idiot and thinking that one guy at work’s going to like it.”

Also, if you’re wondering why he wears the same thing in his videos, he offers an explanation, too. His trademark tee-and-shorts ensemble is something they call Togs in New Zealand.

On a more serious note, he shares,

“Every parent can kind of relate, and there’s so many people out there who’re aunties, uncles, they look after people’s kids… It’s just everyday scenarios with kids which has given me the inspiration for it.”

To give you an idea of just how hilarious Jordan is as a dad and video creator, watch how he demonstrates techniques that he insists are effective in putting a baby to sleep. He’s even named each one!

Here’s “The Shush Train” which involves making the “shhh” sound repeatedly.

Watch how confused his adorable little girl looks the minute he starts to demonstrate.

Then there’s “The Bribe Dad.” From the name itself, it comes with promises that no baby will ever say no to.

“Tomorrow, I’ll let you climb the curtains.”

He even includes some method acting wherein he feigns grogginess and proceeds to lie on the floor in hopes of convincing the baby to go to sleep.

You’ll also love “The Dad That Doesn’t Know A Single Lullaby” technique.

It’s basically a remix of lullabies which he sort of just mumbles through.

But you’re actually mistaken if you think Jordan is the star. It’s clearly his daughter, Alba.

Coincidentally (or not, who knows?), her response to each technique will convince you that they’re all effective. She’s got perfect timing, too. But Jordan shares, “It’s never really that easy.”

He credits the success to his little one’s participation, saying,

“I think if you take Alba the cute baby out of it, they’re not going to do very well – it’s definitely 99 percent her, 1 percent me.”
