There are no words to describe the love between a father and his son. Yep, dads might engage in some light-hearted teasing when they’re hanging out with their mini-mes, but nobody could ever break the bond between them.

One dad proved just how much he loved his son when he took extreme measures to help him feel better about his insecurities.

Derek Prue Sr., of Alberta, Canada, has been visiting Juicy Quill Tattoo to get a special kind of tattoo.

The tattoo has taken between 6 and 8 weeks to complete, but for Derek, the hours of having a needle repeatedly scratching his skin were totally worth it.

We’ve seen some remarkable tattoos over the years, showcasing the incredible artistic talent of tattooists all over the world.

But, while big, Derek’s tattoo was basic in design – it was intended to look like a birthmark.

When Derek’s son, Prue Jr., was born, he had a birthmark on the right side of his chest. As he grew up, his birthmark became a source of insecurity. No kid wants to look different, after all.

This year, Prue Jr. became suspicious when his mom asked to take photos of his birthmark. He had no idea what his dad was secretly up to behind his back.

After weeks of patience and pain endurance, Derek was the bearer of a birthmark that was the exact replica of his son’s.

According to CBC, he did it as a show of solidarity – showing his son that a birthmark is no big deal and that if dad can be proud of his own “birthmark”, so can he!

Tony Gibbert, the owner of Juicy Quill, shared a photo of Derek’s tattoo as it was in progress, writing:

“Today we have a father who’s 8yr old son has a large birthmark, his son is being teased and harassed by kids at school..
So he’s having the exact birthmark tattooed on himself to match his son, so he’s not alone and feeling like the only one.
This is one of the coolest and most Nobel things I’ve ever seen.
I wanted to share this with you all!
A fathers love for his son❤️..truly Amazing!
Be humble, be kind..we’re all a little different and that’s what makes us unique.”

He couldn’t have said it better! Kids at school can be mean, but when this little lad grows up, he’ll soon realize that our “flaws” are the things that make us truly special.

Speaking to CBC, Tony said that Derek’s tattoo wouldn’t have been a fun experience, saying:

“He’s been through the wringer sitting for that. It’s pretty painful.”

Derek didn’t know what he was getting into, either – he thought the tattoo was done after one session!

He recalled:

“I remember the first time coming in, laying down and then after maybe three, four hours, I was like, ‘Yeah, are we almost done?’ And Tony’s like, ‘Yeah, we’re almost done the outline.’

If you’ve never had a tattoo before, you won’t be aware of just how painstakingly long the process can be.

The majority of tattoos as large as Derek’s take hours and hours to complete – but for Derek, it was all worth it.
