Social media has changed the world in oh so many ways, and plenty of those ways are positive, but there are also a few drawbacks that come along with being a user of sites like Instagram and Facebook.
One of the biggest issues many people face is the fact that a lot of social media users only share the good parts of their lives, making it seem like everything is perfect all the time and making everyone else feel more than a little self-conscious of their own lives and issues.
This can be particularly problematic for parents, with many moms and dads using social media to make it seem like their kids are perfectly behaved at all times and they never have any family issues whatsoever. Well, one dad is busting through the sugercoated social media with a truly honest account of what it’s like to be a father of four daughters!
Simon Hooper has a 9-year-old, a 6-year-old, and two infant twins. He says he’s a “handy man, taxi driver, swimming instructor, tutor, chef, counsellor, human climbing frame, bank, personal shopper and PA” all at once due to his rather complicated family life.
He also runs a popular Instagram account, sharing snaps and stories from his life and showing the world what life is truly like for him and his girls.
Simon says that too many parents are using social media to make themselves look better in the eyes of the world, not truly being realistic about what parenting is really like.
My whole account is to show a realistic view of what parenting is like from a parent’s perspective. There is way too much sugarcoating when it comes to parents, so I wanted to share what it’s really like and provide a bit of humor at the same time.
From navigating the awkward perils and pitfalls of sex education to encouraging his girls to aim for the stars, Simon strives to be the best possible dad he can be, and he’s the first to admit that it isn’t always easy.
Like any other parent out there, he knows that there are ups and downs to being a mom or dad. There are plenty of great times and happy moments, but there are also some big challenges and tricky situations to get through.
Many parents out there doubt themselves from time to time. They all want to be the best mother or father around, but it’s not always easy, and seemingly ‘perfect’ social media profiles can make these doubts and fears grow even bigger.
That’s why it’s so wonderful to see dads like Simon out there, keeping it real and showing us all the ins and outs of what being a parent is all about. Instead of sugarcoating his life and showing off, Simon always stays honest in every post he writes and image he shares. He’s an awesome dad, doing the best he can, just like so many other people out there, and we can all learn a little something and laugh along with his funny stories.
