Just imagine: Your kids want to do something fun for the day. You want a convenient option that’s not too expensive and that will keep them entertained for hours on end. Why not choose a park?

But when you get to your local neighborhood park and are watching your kids chasing each other around, you see something suspicious.

Is that a drug deal going down?

If you saw this, you would probably be horrified. After all, this is happening where your kids are playing. If you want to make sure they are safe and don’t want them to be around drugs, you definitely need to do something to rectify this kind of situation. If you don’t, who knows what your kids might wander into while they’re out on the playground?

That’s the predicament that Jeremiah Fjeld and his wife were in recently. Fjeld’s wife had taken their kids to a nearby park by their home in Virginia Beach and saw a drug deal happening. She was really worried about what she had seen, so she called her husband. She thought that they had to find some way to stop what was going on so close to their home.

Therefore, Jeremiah came up with a plan.

He put up a sign in the park. The sign read:

“Sorry, no more drug deals. We’ve had enough.”

He thought that this would do the trick. Surely, if the people who were selling drugs realized that they were being obvious and that the neighbors were catching on, they would decide to do their drug deals elsewhere. But that’s not what happened. Instead, they took the sign out of the ground and stole it.

Jeremiah also saw the kid who was allegedly selling drugs in the park parking lot.

He grabbed him by his backpack and yelled at him not to come back again. But he had no evidence and, therefore, couldn’t get the kid arrested.

He was frustrated and still wanted to find a solution to this issue. So, he decided to put up a new sign. But this one was even larger than before. And instead of simply sticking it in the ground, he put it in concrete instead. That way, it couldn’t be stolen as easily. This time, the sign had a longer message. It read:

“No more dealing drugs here! This park is for our kids! We’ve had enough, and we’re taking our park back!”

Jeremiah says that when he was younger, he was also involved in the drug scene, so he knows what it’s like to be on the other side of the problem.

But that doesn’t excuse the behavior of the people who are openly selling drugs at the park. Since he knows that drugs don’t lead to anywhere good, he wants to prevent other people from doing them, as well. Of course, he also simply doesn’t want his kids to be around any dangerous substances or people.

He told the Miami Herald:

“In my 20s, I knew what it was like to be in the drug scene and to be the bad guy, so I was on the other side of the tracks. You might as well say something now because eventually, they’ll end up in prison or dead, and it’s too late then.”

Hopefully, the steps that Fjeld has taken will prevent people from selling drugs at the park again.

Parents simply want somewhere safe for their children to play, and they shouldn’t have to worry about drug dealers in the parking lot whenever they want to go to the park.
