The greatest gift a parent can give to their child is teaching them how to treat others with empathy and respect.

And knowing that these lessons were received, is the greatest gift a parent could get.

So, when B.C. Cabinet Minister of Jobs and MLA for Delta North Ravi Kahlon, received this gift, he just had to Tweet it out.

Afterall, Kahlon is a “proud Dad” according to his Twitter account.

It’s likely that Kahlon, who is also a coach, mentor, field hockey player, and double Olympian, has a lot of wisdom on how to be successful.

Apparently, that wisdom includes being kind.

He learned that he passed this lesson onto his son when his 10-year-old gave him a note that the child’s classmate gave to him.

“He brings over this note and he says, ‘Dad, one of my friends at school gave me this,'” Kahlon told CTV News.

It was a thank you note thanking Kahlon’s son for showing him some kindness.

The boy had been sitting all alone at lunch.

Kahlon’s son and his friend noticed the boy sitting by himself and decided to join him so he wouldn’t feel lonely.

The little boy was so grateful that he wrote Kahlon’s son a thank you note.

He also asked if he could continue hanging out with Kahlon’s son and his friend.

“Sitting with me outside felt better than anything. Thank you so much. I would like to ask you if I can start joining you guys outside,” the note read.

Kahlon Tweeted a photo of the note which included a pretty drawing of a rainbow.

“Proud dad moment today. My 10yr old son saw a new kid sitting by himself,” the Tweet’s caption read.

“Another friend and he decided to hang out with him over lunch. He got this lovely note at the end of the day.”

They also had some good conversation

“They hung out together at lunch. I asked him what they did and he said ‘we just talked,'” Kahlon explained on Twitter.

Kahlon said he became emotional after reading the note.

“I opened the note and I was like – tears were starting to come through,” said Kahlon.

His Tweet ended up going viral with more than 45,000 retweets.

“I put my phone down and I said, ‘How many tweets do you think this has? Or retweets?'” said Kahlon. “And he [his son] says, ‘I don’t know, 10?'”

But that was not the case as the Tweet was retweeted across the world including in languages that Kahlon isn’t even familiar with.

His son, however, wasn’t phased by it.

“That’s just kids,” said Kahlon. “That is how they know they should act, so to them this is not a special thing, this is just how it is.”

Kahlon said he wasn’t only impressed by his son, but also the boy that wrote the note.

“I was proud of this kid who wrote his feelings down and put it out there like that. As adults we just don’t do that, it’s so adorable,” he said. “The kids are going to be alright. I think we can all learn from kids.”
