No parent would want their child bullied – or the other way around.

Bullying can cause long-term trauma to children, impairing their social, emotional, and mental well-being. Others even result in suicide. We don’t want that to happen to our kids, nor do we want our kids to cause that damage to somebody else.

This is why parents should step in when they sense any form of bullying.

While it is difficult to tell when your child is being bullied, talking to them every day allows you to spot tell-tale signs. On the other hand, of course, parents should help discipline their children if they learn that they bullied someone else. But what kind of discipline should a parent impose?

A father posted how he disciplined his daughter after she bullied someone.

The father (whose identity was never revealed) told his story in the subreddit r/AmITheAsshole. He asked the Redditors if what he did was wrong or if his child deserved the punishment. The original post has long been deleted, but it was reposted by u/MasterOfGamepipoca.

So, what exactly did he do? The Reddit user claimed that they shaved their daughter’s head.

In his post, the original poster (aka the dad) said that he did that because he found out his daughter bullied someone from school who had cancer and was wearing a wig. You might think the dad may have a fighting chance of a case here, but that’s not all.

Apparently, there was already bad blood between his daughter and her schoolmate.

However, this dad was certain that his daughter deserved a punishment.

He said he let her choose between losing all her gadgets or all her hair. She decided to have her head shaved. According to Tip Hero, who saw the original post, the dad initially didn’t tell his ex-wife of this punishment, but she eventually found out.

He said his ex-wife went ballistic upon learning the news.

He also told her that their daughter was going to school without any wig. On the other hand, the mother warned him that what he did to their daughter would subject her to bullying. The father defended his case, saying that this is one way to teach their daughter some compassion.

So, how did the Redditors react to this story?

Their verdict? YTA (You’re the A-hole). The readers seemed to have one opinion regarding this situation. They saw the punishment as bad parenting.

One person echoed what the girl’s mother said.

Shaving his daughter’s head would lead to people bullying her and would be very counterproductive. Sure, his daughter needed some discipline for bullying someone, but that same girl was also bullying her.

Most comments said that the girl’s attitude might reflect his parenting.

They thought the punishment was not only harsh but totally out of place and way out of the line. They also pointed out that he should reflect on how he treats his daughter instead. Because how she acted towards her schoolmate may tell something about his parenting style.
