Dad Overhears Son Telling Friend He Wants To 'Come Out,' Writes Him A Letter That's Gone Viral
What do you think about what dad wrote to his son?

Despite it being 2017, the act of “coming out” can still be as harrowing and daunting as it was several decades ago. However, we have come a long way with the Supreme Court’s landmark decision to make gay marriage legal in all states in 2015. (Can you believe it has already been two years since that time?)

Though gay marriage is legal, it is unfortunately not nationally accepted, so it’s understandable that children may feel cautious when revealing to their parents their sexual preference.

But these parents handled their son’s indirect coming out confession in the most heartwarming way, and it’s going viral.

The note reads:

“Nate,

I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now.

I’ve known you were gay since you were six. I’ve loved you since you were born.

– Dad.

P.S. Your mom and I think that you and Mike make a cute couple.”

The title of the original post says it all: “Every parent should be so cool; the world would be a better place.”

Truer words have never been spoken.

The note even included a subtle dad joke: “The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now.”

A class act all around.
