Confrontation isn’t something we’re all good at dealing with. When faced with the options of fight or flight, some people just get stuck in fright. Sometimes however, one simply just has to stay put and hold your ground.
Holding your ground however, is not always that easy.
But when neither party wants to back down, you get a standoff.
The problem with a standoff however, if you’ve ever seen the film “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”, is that you can end up in somewhat of a stalemate. That means that nobody moves, so nobody wins. Instead, everybody ends up locked into conflict until either someone wins…or someone loses.
There is one place however, where standoffs are not at all strange.
And that’s at home.
That’s simply because if children can be anything, it is stubborn. When a child wants something, you will know about it.
If they don’t want to move but you want them to, you’d better buckle up, because you’re about to have yourself a standoff.
One particular video of such a standoff has made its rounds through the internet!
With over 48 million views, this video of an Irish father and his toddler daughter has captured the hearts of folks all over the world. 15 month-old Lola already has a very hard head, and will not simply comply with instructions.
This dad is trying desperately to get his daughter to climb down from the glass table that she’s standing on, and let’s just say she gives him a mouthful.
If you’ve ever raised a toddler, you’ll know just how futile reasoning with them can be.
Whenever he orders her to get down, she unleashes a passionate response in order to state her case for staying on top of the table. The problem for her, is that she’s only capable of communicating in gobbledigook. This means that while she is responding to his requests, communication is not a toddlers strong suit.
“You don’t get to tell me what to do!” Dad replies jokingly to her exclamations.
The argument is light-hearted and silly, but this may be a sign of things to come for this dad.
While all toddlers are stubborn and can get themselves into all kinds of danger, this may be a sign that this dad will have to keep his eyes peeled for a long time to come.
She releases an onslaught of adorable gibberish, which maybe in daughter-daddy language is offensive?
“What did you call me?” Dad responds to this outburst, with a cheeky poke in the belly. It’s obvious that this dad likes to have fun with his kids and it’s nice to see him engaging with his daughter rather than genuinely yelling or just pulling her down.
But a standoff can only continue for so long.
Eventually the conflict meets its inevitable end…and Dad has no choice but to physically pick her up and move her from the table. When reasoning doesn’t work, sometimes parents just have to pull rank.
