Twenty children. Sue and Noel Radford of Morecambe, Lancashire have 20 children.
But they swear that Charlie, who Sue gave birth to in September, is their last one.
“We set out to maybe have three children but enjoyed having the kids around so just carried on,” Sue told The Sun. “We’re addicted to having all these kids. We Just love it.”
Perhaps their desire to have a large family comes from the fact they grew up without theirs. Both Sue and Noel were given up for adoption at birth. The two became friends as teenagers and started dating at the age of 13.
Sue got pregnant and gave birth to her first child at the age of 14. Noel was 18 at the time. They got married three years after that.
Sue eventually had 11 boys, one who was born stillborn, and nine girls.
“We’re happy to be finishing on a nice even number,” Sue told the Mirror. “I’m just chuffed he is here safe and sound. It’s strange knowing you’re not going to have any more. Our daughter Chloe said: ‘I believe you now.’ I don’t think she has before, but because I’ve said (this is the last) a few times now she does.”
Their clan includes 3-month-old Archie, Chris, 28, Sophie, 23, Chloe, 22, Jack, 20, Daniel, 18, Luke and Millie 16, Katie, 14, James, 13, Ellie, 12, Aimee, 11, Josh, 10, Max, eight, Tillie, seven, Oscar, five, Casper, four, Hallie, two, and Phoebe who is 16-months-old.
“I think I just thrive off it, my body just seems to ping back to normal afterwards,” Sue told the Daily Mail. “The main thing is running around after them helped me get back into shape quite quickly.’
Noel actually had a vasectomy after their ninth child but ended up getting it reversed because they wanted to have more children.
The family lives in a large $300,000 Victorian house and spends about $400 a week on groceries. The Radfords consume 19 pints of milk, three liters of juice, and three boxes of cereal each day. They set aside about $135 for their children’s birthday presents and about $135 to $270 for Christmas.
The Radfords, who were the subject of the TV show “16 Kids and Counting”, also go on an annual vacation. They also rely on their older children to help out with their younger children.
“I have to help out a lot,” said 11-year-old Amy. “It’s stressful.”
People often compliment how well behaved the children are which is miraculous because there are so many of them.
