Andrew Clark’s family has not welcomed a baby girl into their family since 1885.

Yes, you read that right. For 138 years, since Hattie Clark was born, their family has only given birth to boys.

That all changed when Andrew met and married Carolyn.

When they met, Andrew told Carolyn this family fact and Carolyn thought he was joking.

“I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s a 50-50 chance every time. What do you mean?’ He goes, ‘No, legitimately, we have not had a girl in our direct line in over 100 years.'” Carolyn recalled. “I asked his parents to confirm that information and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, no, we haven’t had a girl in our direct line.’ He’s had uncles and cousins that have had girls but in his lineage, there has not been a girl.”

Carolyn took it as a challenge and wanted to break the spell with a baby girl.

When they decided to grow their family, Carolyn said she was going to try and give birth to a baby girl.

If it happens, then it happens.

If it doesn’t happen, they still have a beautiful boy to love.

Carolyn gave birth to her first child, a son named Cameron (now four years old).

Since they wanted to grow their family, they decided to try again and hope for a girl this time.

Unfortunately, Carolyn suffered a miscarriage.

After a few months, they tried again.

Fifteen months after the miscarriage, they found out they were having a rainbow baby.

At this time, they didn’t care if they had a boy or a girl.

They just wanted to have a healthy baby to be born.

“We just were thankful to be pregnant and just praying for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby,” Carolyn shared. “It was just icing on the cake that it was a girl.”

They found out they were having a girl through a sex reveal gathering they had with family.

Everyone was given a cookie with either blue or pink frosting inside.

They had to bite the cookie to know what color was inside.

They did a countdown first so that everyone can bite the cookie together.

When they did, everyone was shocked.

It was pink.

Everyone was either jumping, screaming, or just shocked. Andrew was shocked.

“We kept it a secret to ourselves as well. So I just assumed it was going to be blue in the center of the cookies and it’d be another boy in the lineage,” Andrew recounted. “I think I just stared at the center of that cookie like, it’s really pink.”

Having only had experiences with boys, they were still shocked they were having a girl.

In fact, at every ultrasound after that, they always asked to confirm that they were really having a girl.

“It made it really hard to come up with names because we’ve never thought of girl ones before,” Andrew joked.

They did come up with a name for their baby girl.

On March 16, 2023, Andrew and Carolyn welcomed their baby girl, Audrey Marie Clark.

“It was just joy, you know, just that she was here and healthy,” Carolyn said. “It made it even more special that it was a girl because it was like, you were worth the wait and all the struggles.”

What became a challenge for Andrew and Carolyn has now become a challenge completed for the parents.
