According to stats taken from The Data Center over the last 10 years, the split between male and female births is 51% to 49% with males being just slightly more common.

That’s the average though, and not everyone fits into that average.

One Michigan family, for instance, had not had a single girl born to them in 138 years.

Andrew Clark’s family was full of boys; his great-great-grandfather had a sister and that was the last girl the family had welcomed since.

Therefore, when Andrew and his wife Carolyn had their first baby, it was no surprise to them that it was a baby boy.

They named their son Cameron and soon wanted to give him a sibling, presumably a little brother.

In December of 2021, Carolyn found out she was pregnant again and the whole family was excited.

Unfortunately, Carolyn suffered a miscarriage and lost the baby; this devastated the whole Clark clan.

For 15 more months, they tried to get pregnant again, but by the end, they thought it just wouldn’t happen for them.

It was a huge shock when Carolyn found out she was pregnant again just a few weeks after they decided to stop actively trying.

The couple kept the secret to themselves for a while until they passed the first trimester, then they happily shared the news.

When little Cameron found out, he said that he hoped it would be a little sister.

His parents, however, knew how unlikely that was and so they started creating a list of boy names to choose from when the baby was finally born.

Though they were pretty sure they knew the answer, they decided to do a gender reveal party and find out then what they would be having.

They had adorable little cookies, decorated with pinks and blues and the reveal was the color of the icing inside the cookie.

With their family gathered around them, Andrew and Carolyn bit into their cookies and revealed the astonishing news that they were pregnant with a girl.

The whole family jumped around with delight and gave loud hoots and hollers showcasing their delight at the news.

Big brother Cameron got his wish, he would soon have a little sister to help take care of.

While Andrew and Carolyn liked the idea of having both a boy and a girl, they never thought it would happen and just hoped for a healthy baby.

They quickly realized that the list of names they had compiled was useless and they would have to start thinking of girl names.

They settled on the name Audrey, an English name meaning ‘Noble Strength’.

It wasn’t long before their baby girl arrived.

On March 17th of 2023, a St. Patrick’s Day, Audrey Marie Clark was born.

Her delivery went smoothly and she is perfectly healthy, she is now home with her family.

When asked how he felt, Andrew stared into his daughter’s eyes as he said, “It’s incredible being a girl dad. I didn’t think it was a possibility so it never crossed my mind. I just get so happy just looking at her, she’s beautiful, we’re so so lucky.”
