Finding out the gender of your baby is a fun surprise for every parent. But one Michigan couple was actually shocked when they discovered their bundle of joy was a girl.
Kateri and Jay Schwandt are the proud parents of 14 sons. No joke, 14! Up until recently, it seemed like they’d never break their long streak of giving birth to boys. Turns out though, 15 was somewhat of a “lucky number.”
Maggie Jayne was born weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces. She’s officially the youngest of 15 kids and the only girl in the brood.
The Schwandts were naturally a little stunned by the news – since there’s no question that boys run in their family.

Kateri and Jay’s oldest son, 28-year-old Tyler, told the Detroit Free Press:
“My parents were finally blessed with the little girl they never thought they’d end up having. It’s been about 12 hours since my dad told us, and I still haven’t quite wrapped my mind around it.”
As if 2020 couldn’t any crazier! We are blessed to welcome and announce the birth of our little SISTER, Maggie Jayne….

Tyler also explained that he didn’t believe his parents even had a girl’s name picked out. Much to everyone’s surprise, they actually needed one this time! “Maggie” comes from Kateri’s middle name “Margaret,” while “Jayne” honors her dad’s name “Jay.”

The Schwandts are an outdoorsy family living on 200-acres in Lakeview, Michigan.
While each of the boys has their own unique qualities, they all share a love for the great outdoors. The group is passionate about hunting, fishing, camping, climbing trees – and pretty much anything that includes being out in nature.
The family has their own show on MyOutdoorTV called 14 Outdoorsmen. Let’s hope that Maggie came into the world wearing her camo!

Kateri and Jay began dating in high school. They got married in 1993, welcoming three beautiful sons before graduating from college.
The couple’s streak of boys obviously continued over the years – and with each one, they’ve felt blessed. In 2018, after giving birth to their 14th son, Finley, Kateri spoke with TODAY. She said:
“For us, it is about the baby, about the miracle of life. It’s not about having a girl.”

For those curious about what the odds are of giving birth to “14 boys in a row” – TODAY reported it’s 1 in 16,384.
They didn’t know if it would ever happen, but thought it would be amazing to have a girl in the family.
Back in 2014, Jay told MLive that he’s pictured “walking his daughter down the aisle” and attending father-daughter dances. Now that little Maggie’s here, he’s going to have these dreams come true!
As for Mom, during the 2014 interview with MLive, she had said:
“If we were to have a girl, I think we would go into shock.”

Little Maggie’s got a whole lot of love surrounding her.
45-year-old Kateri gave birth to their 15th child at the Mercy Health Saint Mary’s Hospital at the beginning of November. The baby’s now home on their farm, with many hands to help care for her.
Jay told the Detriot Free Press:
“We are overjoyed and beyond excited to add Maggie Jayne to our family. This year has been memorable in so many ways, for so many reasons, but Maggie is the greatest gift we could ever imagine.”
Maggie Jayne is finally home and the boys are so in love already ❤️ #TeachEmWell #KidsOfTheOutdoors #FamilyOfHunters…
