One morning, Jennifer Nicole Reindl waved goodbye to her son, Trenton McKinley.
Like he did most days, the 13-year-old set out with a friend to have fun, but something horrible happened.
Two months before, Trenton was in a trailer being towed by a go-cart being driven by a friend.
They hit a curve.
They took the curve too quickly, sending Trenton flying.
He hit his head on the concrete, and the trailer landed on his head.
Trenton lost consciousness.
As Jennifer answered the call, she almost fainted.
“Your whole world just crumbles.”
That’s how Jennifer described learning the state of her son in her interview with TODAY.
She rushed to the scene and was with him when the helicopter rushed Trenton to a nearby hospital.
The doctors, upon seeing the young boy’s condition, knew that his chances of survival were slim.
He had 7 cranial fractures.
“I had no idea how bad his injuries were,” his mom, Jennifer Reindl, added.
The doctors tried their best to help the young boy, but with seven fractures on his head, time could only tell.
In a now-deleted Facebook post, Jennifer said that the doctors told her about the seven fractures and they disclosed another heartbreaking detail.
Trenton died four times.
That’s once every 15 minutes. They managed to revive Trenton, but sadly, there were no longer any brain waves.
He was basically brain-dead but the adrenaline caused his heart to continue beating.
By this time, the doctors told her Trenton would no longer live, but he could save five other children with his organs.
Jennifer signed the papers.
She knew in her heart that her son would no longer survive and that through his organs, he could help other children have another chance in life.
It was time to say goodbye to her dearest Trenton.
The next day, they scheduled Trenton to check the last brain wave. This would help them get an accurate time of death.
Then something happened that shocked everyone.
His vitals spiked. His hand moved. Then his feet. And then, as everyone in the room was discussing how this was impossible, Trenton opened his eyes.
Based on his condition, dying for 15 minutes straight, his kidneys failing, and losing brain activities, there was only one word to describe what happened.
It was a miracle.
A true, honest, real, bonafide miracle.
In an interview with WALA, a FOX affiliate in Alabama, Trenton said he had a very vivid experience of what he thought was heaven.
“I was in an open field walking straight,” Trenton said. “There’s no other explanation but God. There’s no other way. Even doctors said it.”
Indeed, everyone in that room, Jennifer, and even Trenton knew science or logic couldn’t explain what happened.
God’s magnified His glory through Trenton’s healing.
Slowly, Trenton recovered, even regaining his ability to joke around.
“They told me I’d be a vegetable,” he said, smiling, in an interview with TODAY. “I don’t really seem like a vegetable, do I?”
He also said that next time, he would be the one driving.
Trenton still has lots of recoveries to do. He will still need to undergo surgery, but everyone knows he’s going to pull everything off.
“God did for my son what he did for his own….and I am so honored to have him back this is my testimony… God is good,” she wrote in an old Facebook post.
Indeed. God is good. Very good.
