When mom’s away Eric Bruce and his son Jack will play… with the Dubsmash app. Dubsmash is a super fun app that allows you to take videos of yourself lip-synching to your favorite songs and movies.

When Eric’s wife Priscilla went back to work as a makeup artist, he wanted to make sure that his wife didn’t miss their son too much while she was away at night and on weekends.

So, he started creating Dubsmash videos to send to her when she was out of the house.

“It was a little glimpse into the past year of raising a baby and having good times together and bonding as father and son,” Eric Bruce tells TODAY of the video compliation he made from his videos. “And making sure his mom was happy and in the loop after going back to work. … It’s the equivalent of updating her with a picture, but trying to do something a little more special.”

And the results of trying to make Priscilla smile are absolutely hilarious.

The videos feature Eric and Jack reenacting moments from the movie “Hook,” “Lord of the Rings,” and “Harry Potter,” and singing songs like Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River,” and the “Safety Dance.”

Eric even goes out of his way to use props and dress up in costume to fit the parts he’s lip synching to.

“It helps that I’m a huge ham,” said Eric, who works at an art museum. “I had a blast, and it’s a great way to bond with him and learn how to be a dad and what to do with a baby when you’re alone with a baby for the day.”

Dad says that Jack is the true star in these videos.

“The common thread would be things I thought would make Jack smile and would be funny to his mom,” Erica said. “Jack plays a great straight man in the comedy duo. He’ll look at me and wonder what’s going on.”

Thanks to the father-and-son duo’s antics, mom doesn’t have to worry about what’s going on at home when she’s away.

“It just makes me laugh out loud,” Priscilla told TODAY. “It’s really like a bright spot in my day.”

Priscilla eventually convinced Eric that he should be posting these videos on YouTube and that’s when they went viral. Here’s Part 1 of his year of Dubsmash videos with Jack, which has more than 6 million views:

Eric just says that he’s really happy that he gets to be a dad and use the videos to bond with his son.

“It’s hard raising a baby but none of it is a pain. It’s a treat and it’s all about perspective,” he says.

Here’s Part II of his Dubsmash compilation with his son:

“It’s challenging and tiring and you never know how exhausted you can be,” says Eric of being a dad. “Those are the moments where you can make a decision to be happy about it or be upset he’s not eating his food. I’d prefer to be the person who enjoys the moment.”

You can definitely tell that the both of them enjoy the moments they have making these videos, and we do too!
