Some of the best things in life happen when you least expect them.
This has been proven countless times by many people all over the world and this beautiful story is no different.
Destiny has written it when a firefighter in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina named Marc Hadden responded to an emergency call on November 14, 2011. With years of experience both in his profession as a firefighter and police officer, he had already saved countless lives, but that day was his first time helping a woman deliver a baby.
Little did he know, that same day was going to change his life forever.
The woman who called 911 was complaining about severe abdominal pain, however, it turned out to be more serious because the woman was only seconds away from giving birth.
It was now or never, Hadden knew he needed to act fast.
Thankfully, the baby came out but he had to administer oxygen to help the 6-lb. 2-oz. newborn breathe on her own.
“She struggled from the minute she was put in my hands,” said Marc while trying to recall what happened.
According to Hadden, the newborn’s cry sounded “amazing.” He never thought that in just a matter of 48 hours, he’d be bringing the baby girl home – as her father.
Turns out, Marc and his wife, Beth, were already blessed with two boys, Will and Parker, but they had been wanting a third child. Sadly, the couple had trouble conceiving. They even thought about adopting a baby before that 911 call came in as a blessing in disguise.
A chance of a lifetime.
While Hadden and the mother of the newborn were at the hospital, the latter confessed she had no means of taking care of her baby girl. That’s when the kind firefighter felt he could volunteer to be the baby’s legal dad.
His wife even remembered receiving a phone call from him that day. Hadden told Beth, “I delivered a baby,” to which the wife jokingly responded, “Can we keep her?”
With high hopes, Marc told his wife, “I think she might be going up for adoption.”
Beth soon discovered that the mother of the newborn baby girl was a single mom and had already been struggling to raise her teenage son. She suddenly felt the urge to give her a visit to the hospital.
“My heart just went out to this woman,” said Beth. “I brought her a little prayer book and asked I could get anything for her.”
A mother’s unconditional love.
As the two mothers talked, a doctor entered the room to let the other know they were ready for the adoption process. That’s when she turned to Beth and told her, “I can’t give my baby to someone I’ve never met.”
“Suddenly the opportunity was there for me to say that Marc and I had been praying about adoption for years,” said Beth. “And she looked over at me and said, ‘I want you to adopt my baby.”
It didn’t take long, that day, Marc and Beth signed some temporary-custody papers, and just 48 hours after the baby’s birth, the couple was able to bring her home. Finally, their prayer was heard and turned into a reality.
They named their new baby, Gracie, and made sure to let her know where she came from. The couple told her everything and Marc even brought her back to the ambulance where she was born.
What a beautiful story, Marc, Beth, Gracie, and her biological mom, were all lucky to have known each other.
