Do you remember the first time someone asked you to be their Valentine?

Oh, the butterflies in our stomach and that giddy feeling all over. But how old were you when that happened?

We bet it’s not as young as when you were five, is it?

We think that’s too young for anyone to be hit by cupid’s arrow, right? Probably at that age, all we could think about were toys and our favorite cartoon shows.

But this five-year-old was able to do that, and it was the sweetest thing.

Anthony Small may be young (and small!), but he knew what he wanted to do for Valentine’s Day. He saw a box of chocolates while they were out at the Dollar General and asked his mom, Shelby, if he could buy it for his Valentine.

Shelby was curious about the lucky girl, and he said it was Lyla Pope.

Anthony and Lyla go to school together and sometimes sit beside each other on the bus. The bus monitor even heard them talking about sneaking up after bedtime to meet. Shelby knew that he had to give in to his son because there was no talking him out of it.

Anthony’s sister was just as supportive.

She told Anthony that he couldn’t give the box of chocolates only; it must come with a stuffed toy. Well, who else can tell Anthony what a girl likes for Valentine’s Day if not his sister?

In the end, Anthony came up with a plan – something he’s been thinking about for two weeks.

He’d like to give Lyla a box of chocolates, a stuffed unicorn, a bouquet, and a note. Shelby suggested that Anthony wear his buttoned-up shirt, but our young sweetheart thought to go beyond that and got his tuxedo.

Of course, this was with Lyla’s parents’ consent.

Shelby texted Alyse about her son’s plan and explained that he had already been planning it for weeks. Alyse said yes (obviously!) and thought this has got to be the sweetest thing.

Shelby filmed and posted the video on TikTok, with 55.9 million views and 10.3 million likes.

Anthony said he was nervous that day, but he pulled it off anyway. He waited outside under the snow. He stood by the door, asked for Lyla, and waited until she came down to greet him.

He handed his gifts and greeted Lyla with a “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

It was the sweetest, most wholesome V-Day moment you’ll ever see. Lyla received all of Anthony’s gifts happily, and the two hugged each other.

Shelby gave in to his son’s request because kids won’t stay young for too long.

She thought that her son’s request was sweet, young, and innocent, something pure. It’s one moment where she thought Anthony might look back when he gets older and say, “Yeah, I did that.”

The young man’s gesture also touched people on TikTok.

Some commented that his gentlemanly manner of simply greeting a girl on Valentine’s Day with thoughtfulness and respect is something worth emanating, especially with men nowadays.

Oh, what sweet, young love could do. We hope this brought a smile on your face, too.
