Jessica Frank, 33, had always wanted to be a foster parent.
Her parents had fostered children themselves, and she always thought it would be a great way to give back.
Jessica’s husband, unfortunately, didn’t seem to agree. He was content with the way their life was currently and wasn’t keen on any big changes. But that was before he met Shailee.
Shailee is an adorable little girl with brown hair and glasses.
Jessica’s parents had originally been fostering Shailee, but when her husband Shailee for the first time, the little girl immediately stole his heart.
In a Love What Matters post, Jessica explained how the family had gone for a hike.
“After the hike, we met up at a restaurant to eat lunch and during that time, my husband struck up conversation with [Shailee].”
“She made mention that she just wanted a family to adopt her.”
“That was it. That night, my husband told me that it was time to start our classes to be licensed to foster.”
Jessica and her husband passed all their fostering classes and were excited to welcome Shailee into their life.
Later, once they had gotten the official date to adopt her, they decided to keep it hush.
“When we finally found out the official adoption date, we told each other we wouldn’t tell the kids.”
“It would be the ultimate surprise.”
On the date of the adoption, Jessica and her husband brought the kids to school like any other day. At the end of the school day, about 2 hours before the adoption ceremony, they went to go pick them up.
To commemorate the adoption, Jessica decided to film Shailee’s reaction to the surprise in a clip which has since gone viral.
“I was so nervous to break the news,” she said.
“I was so nervous I wouldn’t get the reaction we had been hoping for.”
“I turned my camera on and my worries went out the window.”
In the one-minute video, you hear Jessica’s husband tell the kids they’re on the way “to court for the adoption”, and Shailee’s eyes immediately bulge.
“Really?” the girl exclaims. “You’re lying!” When Jessica confirms it, however, Shailee starts crying tears of happiness.
In the video, you can sense Shailene’s disbelief, joy, and gratefulness all in the span of one scene.
“Her reaction was more than I ever hoped for,” Jessica said. “For a kid that had been praying for adoption for years, this was it.”
“We are her forever family and we couldn’t be happier to have her in our lives.”
