The best part of being a teenage girl is having a good ol’ fashioned slumber party. Getting together with your favorite gal pals, gorging yourselves on junk, and watching classic movies—it’s pretty much a rite of passage!
Those with more conservative parents can remember the forcefulness with which mom and dad would announce “NO BOYS ALLOWED!”; but when one boy wasn’t allowed to go to his best friend’s sleepover, he wasn’t about to take no for an answer!
When Mason Brian Barclay found out his best friend Houston Shelton was having a slumber party, he was beyond excited. There was one problem, however. Houston’s parents had specifically said no members of the opposite sex were allowed.
Mason understood the reasoning for these rules— usually, they have a sexual undertone, with parents wanting to avoid any possible teenage hanky-panky that may occur under their roofs. But Mason, a self-identifying gay male, didn’t really think those rules were applicable in this case.
Hoping to try and convince Houston’s parents to let him participate in the sleepover, he sends Houston’s mother a text which begins, “Hey Mrs. Shelton! This is Mason Brian Barclay, I am one of Houston’s new best friends.”
“If she had people over on Friday, would I, a very homosexual male, be able to take part in the sleepover?”
“I think the common meaning behind only allowing the same sex to share sleepovers is due to the typical interested in the opposite sex, when in this case, I do not like the opposite sex.”
The honest teen ends his message politely, writing, “Thank you for your time and consideration, have a great night. Amen.”
While he may have expected Houston’s parents to give in and let him come to the sleepover, or to simply refuse his request altogether, he definitely did not expect Houston’s mom to hit him with a reply that has had the internet roaring ever since:
“Hmm. Well, my husband is hot. Should I worry?”
The exchange, which was posted to Twitter by Mason, quickly went viral. People love the boy’s respectful message as well as the mother’s hilarious response.
That took guts, and this mom acknowledged it *fabulously*! I wish you a fun night with your friends! Stay away from Houston’s dad, now. ??
