It was the scariest moments of their lives.
11-year-old Julianne and her 6-year-old brother Hayden Moore were playing outside their house when the unthinkable happened.
A stranger approached, circling around them as they were prey.
That’s when Julianne knew something bad was about to go down. Her instincts went into high alert as the man closed in on them. She told local TV station WJW FOX8:
“He started to talk to us, but we really couldn’t figure out what he was saying. It was like gibberish so we really didn’t think much of it.”
Initially, the stranger walked away from them, but they were far from safe. The man immediately circled back, and that’s when he snatched Hayden’s hand and attempted to walk away with him.
“When he tried to grab my brother, I knew like this was serious. This was not like any handshake or anything.”
Thankfully, Julianne, who had a good head on her shoulders, stayed calm and collected during the frightening ordeal.
Her quick actions that day saved her brother’s life!
And that’s no exaggeration. Had it not been for Julianne, Hayden may have met a very different fate that night.
“I just grabbed my brother and went into the backyard because there was no time to panic. You just have to go with it.”
This is why big sisters rule.
After she found her way into the backyard, with her little brother safely in tow, Julianne ran screaming to her father.
The brave girl alerted her dad to the fact that a bad man had just tried to snatch Hayden from their own front yard.
Their father, Joshua Moore, said:
“My daughter came running back there with my son, dragging him by the arm and screaming. I said, ‘Julianne, what’s wrong?’ She said a man tried to abduct Hayden.”
This is why dads rule.
Joshua ran out to the front of the house and caught up to the would-be kidnapper, who was only about five houses down.
“I said, ‘Excuse me, did you touch my child?’ And he just threw his arms out like this and continued walking. At that point, I came back, my daughter was crying and upset, and we called police.”
“My heart dropped because I know that I saved my brother. He would not be here right now.”
Thanks to Julianne’s detailed description of the suspect, the Cleveland police department was able to take Pedro Luyando, 33, into custody and charge him with abduction.
It was a moment that dad Joshua couldn’t have been more proud of. He taught his kids to us the buddy system, and it paid off in a big way.
Even though she was shaken by what happened right in their own front yard, Julianne managed to stay calm. She truly is her brother’s guardian angel.
“She’s my hero. She saved my son. I told everyone, I truly believe my son wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for her.”
