While the nine months of pregnancy are filled with impatience and excitement to meet the new family member, every expectant parent will tell you they are willing to wait a little longer before meeting the new baby. This will ensure that the newborn will be fully developed and won’t need any medical support.
However, sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned and in some cases there are circumstances that dictate that the baby should be born earlier than expected. In fact, as many as 11.4 percent of all pregnancies end in early deliveries.
Just like what happened in the family featured in the video below. Mom Courtney already had two children, Reef and Presley, who were excited to find out they would soon be big brother and sister a couple of years ago.
During Courtney’s pregnancy, Reef and Presley were impatient to meet their baby sister and the whole family was looking forward to the day the little one would come home and would receive all the hugs of the world from her parents and siblings.
But, as it can sometimes happen, life had slightly different plans for the growing family.
At 34 weeks pregnant, Courtney was told by her doctor that they would have to deliver the baby early due to heart complications.
This translated into two things: first, the baby would have to be born via C section, and second, she would have to stay in the NICU because her lungs had not fully developed yet, being a preemie.
Although Courtney didn’t like the news she received, she knew it was the best for her unborn child, so she gave birth to baby Charleigh on October 2, 2018.
The newborn baby was then kept on ventilation in the NICU for 16 days, and on October 18 she was ready to be taken home.
Over these two weeks in the NICU, Carleigh’s older sister, Presley, wanted to visit her desperately, but it being RSV and flu season, she was not allowed in the hospital.
Finally, when the baby was brought home, their mom decided to surprise Presley and film her reaction.
Indeed, when Reef and Presley returned from school that day, their mom asked them to wait until she called them in the room. The kids didn’t know it yet, but in that room, baby Carleigh and their grandma were waiting for them.
Eventually, Courtney called the kids inside, and that’s when Presley saw her.
When Presley saw her baby sister, she burst into tears of joy.
“How is she finally here?” Reef asks, while Presley can’t hold back her tears.
The little girl is obviously overwhelmed by emotion and she can’t even talk.
“Are you OK?” Courtney asks, and Presley is just nodding, she can’t even express herself.
Without using words, but only nodding, Presley explains that she’s very happy and wants to hold her baby sister.
Grandma then hands Carleigh to her older sister, and one can see that the little girl is super careful when handling the baby. She already adores her younger sister- that’s pretty clear.
While the boy is also happy with the new arrival, he is doing a better job with remaining calm, unlike his sister, who is just overwhelmed.
The sweet video has gone viral with more than 8.5 million views, and it has been upvoted almost 100k times.
