When one-year old Everly was born with congenital cataracts in both eyes, it was touch and go whether she would ever be able to see. But after 4 surgeries, the brave little girl was presented with her very own pair of glasses- and she was about to be able to see for the first time ever!
Naturally, Everly’s parents wanted to catch this special moment on camera. But they had no idea that she was going to react how she does!
As Everly’s dad carefully pops her glasses onto her face, the sweet little girl waits patiently until they’re perfectly in front of her eyes. Then she stares around the room with what can only be described as absolute amazement.
It’s only when we watch her sweet reaction that we notice how much we take our sight for granted. This little girl has never been able to see things clearly before, and she’s now so appreciative for her new-and-improved sight.
The most special moment has to be when Everly first spots her parents.
She can’t stop a huge smile from spreading to her face as she looks into her dad’s eyes clearly for the very first time. She’s so overjoyed to see her parent’s faces that she touches them with her hand- first her mom’s, and then her dad’s. It’s as if she can’t quite believe that this is happening.
Everly then becomes fascinated with different things around the house that she’s never noticed before, like the TV and her glasses case.
“She doesn’t want to take them off,” Everly’s dad observes happily.
In the comments section of the video, Everly’s mom explained the little girl’s story in more detail, and it’s clear that she’s come such a long way!
“Hello! I’m Everly’s mom Melissa! What a long journey it’s been. She was diagnosed with congenital cataracts by her paediatrician at 3 months and we were sent to U of M.
She had her 1st surgery to remove her cataracts and replace them with IOL lenses at 11 months. She was 1 when she got her 1st pair of glasses. She was wearing her Batgirl outfit because it was my birthday and I love Batman. Needless to say it was the best birthday ever!!!”
Although the video was posted by Rumble Viral in 2019, it turns out that Everly is actually 6 years old now! And her mom is all too happy to give us the update that we’ve all been waiting for:
“She has had 5 total surgeries, patching, 2 pairs glasses, eye drops and all that fun stuff but she is a fighter! Thanks so much for sending your love and kind words. Her dad and I are so proud of her.”
It’s so amazing to see how far Everly has come, and we feel honored to be a part of the special moment where she was finally able to properly see for the first time. Watch the sweet video for yourself below, and try not to tear up!
