The toilet seat debate is one that makes or breaks relationships— and Bradlee Rae Hayes, an adorable toddler from Texas, has already decided that she’s not going to stand for her father’s disrespect.
In this hilarious video, a sassy Bradlee Rae gives her father Jeremiah a lecture about leaving the toilet seat up.
Bradlee Rae, who looks to be roughly 3 years old and clad in lavender pajamas, approaches Jeremiah who appears to be lounging on the bed. “How many times do I have to tell you?” the toddler begins, exasperatedly. “When you put the seat up and I tell you to put it down for me when I go peepee. Why do you keep doing that?!”
Jeremiah doesn’t make it easy for Bradlee Rae, though, pointing out that the toddler simply has to lift up the seat. But the toddler retorts with a response that has been used by women in this situation for decades: “BUT I DON’T WANT TO.” Jeremiah, clearly having never fallen into the toilet while taking a midnight pee, isn’t very sympathetic to this daughter’s plight.
“Oh,” he says. “So, you want me to lift it up and put it down. And you don’t want to do anything?”
“Daddy,” Bradlee Rae says. “Listen to me. When you’re done with the potty, you gotta put it down when girls come in and they need to go peepee.”
In an interview with Daily Mail UK, Jeremiah revealed:
“Bradlee Rae is always giving me an earful about the toilet seat. This is her down to a T, as she is always letting me know when I am slacking.”
“If I am not doing my job as a dad properly, she isn’t afraid to let me know. Especially when it comes to putting the toilet seat down.”
As mentioned, the toilet seat debate finds its way into many households. In fact, couples’ therapists in Britain consider it to be the #1 domestic argument in the nation. The Telegraph UK even reports it may be “indicative of wider relationship issues.” However, when you get down to the nitty-gritty, there’s no real reason men have been designated with the task. Every person can lift a toilet seat and put it down— it’s just that none of us really want to. Luckily, a man named Jay Choi came up with a solution to the problem.
Jay Choi, from Michigan State University, actually came up with a scientific answer to the age-old question of who should be responsible for moving the seat. Basically, Choi considers the fact that men are the only ones who lift the seat— and only for urination. Then, by assuming the frequency of daily elimination, Choi came up with an equation.
“Basically, ” Cracked explains, “if the number of ladies in the house is equal to or greater than the number of dudes, the seat stays down period. To make keeping the seat up worthwhile, men have to outnumber women by a certain ratio.”
