Saying goodbye is never easy, especially for toddlers and other younger children.
But sometimes ‘goodbye’ can be the sweetest highlight of a wonderful day. Hearts across the Internet melted when they saw this especially cute goodbye between a mother and her very young daughter.
Mom thought she didn’t forget anything
“Love you!”
Two words that was this mother’s way of saying goodbye to her daughter. She had a full day ahead of her with both work and errands but she wanted to be sure that her little girl knew how important she was to her. After saying those important two words, she was ready to start her day.
She couldn’t leave yet because…
But mom saw her husband let go of the little girl’s hand. She then races down the sidewalk to meet her. Mom thought really hard on what she could have forgotten when it hits her. She calls out to her daughter and asks:
“Oh, we forgot a kiss?”
Mom walks to meet her daughter half way then gets down on one knee to greet her.
A kiss with a side order of…
The toddler is absolutely adorable as she races to her mother’s side. She leans in to give her a cute little peck, her own way of saying I love you. But if you think she’s done yet, then think again.
Because this little girl has something important to tell her mother.
“I love you
And I trust you
And I love you, Ok”
Having said her peace, she walks away back to her daddy’s side. Mom can only smile as she says “Bye, Babe” to her sweet little girl.
Let’s talk about other goodbye traditions.
But this isn’t the only way to melt hearts when saying goodbye to your child. While sweet goodbyes like the girl in the video are always wonderful to see, there are many traditions out there.
One parent loves “Hiccups”
SPOKE contributor Corey W and is called the “hiccup”. The hiccup is a high five, a kiss, and then you pick up your child and give them a hug. The name comes from the first letters of the first two steps and the last two letters of the last step seem to spell it out.
Another parent starts the ‘right’ way
Red Tricycle’s Ad Sales manager talks about a tradition she had with her mom growing up. Before the first day of school, her mom would say the Sheehecheyanu prayer (to celebrate something new) and ask her child to step out the house with her right foot. A metaphor and neat cultural tradition all in one.
Some parents like to KIS
Teacher Jill Hornstein always gave kids a simple fist bump. Jill believed that simple rituals give children more room to focus on being ready and excited to learn. She explained further by saying:
“Parents should NOT walk their kids into school every day. Start from the beginning allowing them to be independent.”
The lesson to learn is…
Goodbye rituals are important, whether you’re off on errands, on your way to work, or seeing children off to their first days of school. It’s up to parents to decide which rituals work best for their home. But if you want to see one very cute goodbye, check out the video below.
