Music is an emotional experience. For the most part, it’s one that we process with our hearts and souls, instead of our minds. Depending on the selection, music can cheer us up or act as a companion to sadness. Music has been present in every culture and every time on Earth, and there are few individuals immune to its effects— and this includes babies.
When Lauren Megg Furr, a mother from Tennessee, decided to sing a gospel song to her young son Leland, she never expected his reaction.
The song is called “Good, Good Father” by Chris Tomlin. The lyrics express the greatness of God, frequently reiterating, ‘You are perfect in all of your ways’.
As mentioned, when Lauren started singing the song to Leland, the little boy had an unexpected, emotional reaction. In that instant, he connected emotionally and spiritually to the melody of the music, as well as to his mother’s voice. When Lauren saw the effect it had on little Leland, she knew she had to record.
Lauren later uploaded the video to Facebook, where it has since gone viral. Alongside the clip, she wrote:
“As I was feeding Leland today, this happened. Even a child knows… He is a good, good Father!”
In the video, you see Leland watching his mother intently as she sings the lyrics to the song.
The little boy is a gorgeous little baby with a sweet face, and big, blue eyes. He wears an adorable fish-print bib, and it’s clear he had been eating before this all occurred.
Initially, Leland wears a happy grin, delighted by his mom’s singing. He stares directly at her, barely even moving aside from the expressions on his adorable, little face.
But, as Lauren continues singing, Leland starts feeling the song in his soul.
It looks like he is utterly touched by the message of the song and the beauty of his mom’s voice, as she sings to him: “You are perfect in all of your ways.”
Tears pool in his eyes and little sniffles emerge— but Leland can’t take his eyes away.
He is so touched by the beautiful song that tears even start running down his face— but still, he stays quiet and listens, like he’s trying to absorb every single note.
Since being uploaded, Leland’s darling reaction to his mom’s song has been viewed over 850,000 times!
