When many people retire they want to trade in long, harsh winters for warm weather and plenty of sunshine. So it’s not very surprising that Florida tops the list of states that retirees move to, according to SmartAsset.
Unfortunately, there’s also a downside. Although living by the beach and having umbrellas in your drinks sounds fabulous – moving away means you’re far apart from your loved ones (who are still at home braving those winters).
If family members live in different states it can lead to plenty of missed celebrations. Naturally, this can be difficult – especially when grandparents and little kids are involved.
One New Jersey woman wanted to do something extra-special for her mom’s birthday, who was living in Florida.
Simply sending her a gift through the mail wasn’t going to cut it though. Instead, she decided to surprise her mom with what she truly desired – a visit from her family!
The woman packed up her husband and young daughter and secretly flew to The Sunshine State.
After they arrived, they drove over to “Grandma’s house” and prepared to give her the best surprise ever. The woman flipped on the camera to capture her mom’s reaction when she opened the front door. It’s a good thing she did because it’s absolutely priceless!

“My husband, 3 1/2 year old daughter and myself, flew to Florida, from New Jersey, to surprise my mom for her birthday! Needless to say, she was completely shocked to see her granddaughter!! The following video is shows just how SURPRISED she really was!!!”
In the video, the little girl is the one who gets to ring the doorbell.
But even before she presses the button, you can hear Grandma’s dogs barking inside of the house. Surely the woman thought someone was delivering a package – or perhaps it was a neighbor dropping by to say hello. Never in her wildest dreams did she think it would be her grandaughter at the door!
Grandma peeks around the curtain and is absolutely stunned by the sight.
She’s so shocked seeing her beautiful granddaughter that she begins to scream!
Yet, instead of quickly opening the front door – she lays on the ground and screams non-stop out of happiness. Can you really blame her?
Even the girl knows her grandma’s reaction is hysterical.
After the woman freaks out for a few moments she finally opens the door.
Don’t expect the screaming to stop there though! She steps out and can’t control her emotions seeing her tiny granddaughter (along with her daughter and son-in-law). There’s a chance she even believed she was dreaming.
With tears in her eyes, the woman takes her granddaughter into her arms for a great big bear hug.
In addition to grandma’s over-the-top reaction being comical – it’s so heartwarming too. You can tell how much she loves her family and that she’s genuinely shocked to see them. Talk about a birthday present she’ll never forget!

There’s nothing better than a good old-fashioned surprise. But if you end up with a reaction this priceless it’s like having a cherry on top (and whipped cream and chocolate syrup).
