Pool noodles made their way in the market about three decades ago when Steve Hartman, CEO and president of Industrial Thermal Polymers, kickstarted the sale of the products after deciding to work with his dad. The two began making backer rods; which Steve’s dad explained was anything with expansion joints that you peel away and there would be foam inside to seal it. Steve and his family seemed to find himself using these rods every time they would jump in the pool.
