A baby named Jonas was born with a condition called plagiocephaly; it affects nearly 1 in 2 infants and depending on the severity, the child may need to wear a helmet to help fix it. Such was the case for Jonas.
Plagiocephaly is also known as “flat-head syndrome, ” and it’s very common. In the case of the Gutierrez family, their 4-month-old son Jonas would need to wear the helmet for 3 to 6 months.
When Jonas’s big sister Camila saw that her brother needed to wear a helmet — she ran and grabbed her bike helmet.
Camila didn’t want her baby brother to feel like he was the only one in the family that was different. To help prevent any awkwardness, she proudly wore her bike helmet around the house in solidarity.
Then — dad, Gary, was inspired by Camila’s selfless act and decided he’d join in on the heart melting moment. Gary slapped his bike helmet on as well, and they all sat down at the table to enjoy breakfast.
Mom, Shayna, took a picture of the adorable moment of the entire family wearing helmets in support of Jonas.
Shayna shared the precious photo on Facebook with a simple caption of “Solidarity in the Gutierrez home.” Simple, adorable, and so moving.
Shayna says this is exactly the type of thing her daughter would do — she always wants to make sure people are included. Camila wants to do all that she can so that her brother doesn’t feel any different than the rest of the family.
“There have been no big issues with the helmet so far. He is a great, easy, happy baby,” Shayna said.
Mom also says that it’s probably a great thing that the helmets are in effect.
“Camila definitely entertains him. She is a mess. She loves bugs and will bring rollie pollies in to climb on him. The helmet will probably save him from a lot of accidents from her,” Shayna told Scary Mommy. “She loves him dearly.”
Gary’s cousin, Shea, got a hold of the sweet pictures and shared them on Twitter. The responses that ensued are the cutest things we’ve ever seen.

The family plans on decorating Jonas’ adorable helmet soon. We think Jonas is the cutest — especially with the helmet! And we commend Camila for being such a great sis.
